Men’s Tennis Sweeps OAC Doubleheader with Pair of Shut Outs

MASON, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis team won a pair of shutout Ohio Athletic Conference matches at the Linder Family Tennis Center

BW (14-2, 4-1 OAC) defeated Marietta College (3-11, 1-4 OAC) by a final score of 9-0 in the first match of the day.   The Yellow Jackets closed out the day by knocking off Muskingum University (0-11, 0-6 OAC) by a final score of 9-0.

In the match with Marietta, BW won all three doubles matches.  Sophomore All-OAC player Dominic Polifrone (Hudson) and sophomore Matt Harris (Akron/Revere won at first doubles by a score of 8-2. Senior Academic All-OAC players Nathan Katz (Upper Arlington/Bexley) and Jake Liebler (Medina) captured second doubles by a score of 8-2.  Senior Brian Carano (Akron/Revere) and freshman Jake Elbin (Findlay) captured doubles by a score of 8-0.

The Yellow Jackets won all six singles matches to secure the win. Polifrone picked up the win at first singles by identical scores of 6-1. Katz secured second singles by scores of 6-0 and 6-1.  Harris captured third singles by identical scores of 6-0. Carano took fourth singles by identical scores of 6-0. Liebler earned the win at fifth singles by identical scores of 6-0.  Elbin brought home victory at sixth singles by identical scores of 6-0.

BW is back in action on Tuesday, April 18 when the team hosts an OAC match against Ohio Northern University on the Pop Collins Tennis Courts at 3:30 p.m.  Head Coach Brian Rector will be honored prior to match for winning his 500th career match earlier this season.
