TEMPE, ARIZ. – The Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis team has been honored by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) as a Division III All-Academic Team for the third consecutive year and seven members have been recognized as Scholar Athletes.

To be honored as an All-Academic Team, the program must have a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale) and all varsity letter winners should be factored into the cumulative team GPA. In order to earn Scholar-Athlete status, a player must be a varsity letter winner, with a grade point average of at least 3.50 for the current academic year and have been enrolled at the school for at least two semesters.

BW, who was one of two Ohio Athletic Conference teams to be honored, finished the 2016-17 academic year with a team grade point average of 3.72.

"I am again extremely proud of the tremendous effort put forth academically and athletically by our men's tennis team in 2016-17," said Veteran Head Coach Brian Rector '89.  "I continue to be impressed with their commitment to the team and efforts to make sure no individual is left behind.  As a result, we continue our established pattern of success in the classroom and on the court.  The Division III student-athlete philosophy is alive and well here at Baldwin Wallace University."

The seven student-athletes honored by the ITA are 2017-18 juniors Roger Boyer (Medina/Brunswick), Matt Harris (Akron/Revere), Dominic Polifrone (Hudson) and sophomore Jake Elbin (Findlay) along with 2017 graduates Brian Carano (Akron/Revere), Nathan Katz (Upper Arlington/Bexley) and Jake Liebler (Medina).

The Yellow Jackets finished the 2016-17 season with a record of 17-4 and a third-place finish in the OAC standings with a mark of 6-2.  BW advanced to the OAC Tournament semifinals.
