NORTH RIDGEVILLE, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis team opened the 2017 portion of its schedule with a 9-0 shutout victory against Penn State Behrend College inside the North Ridge Tennis and Golf Club.
BW (2-0) won all three doubles matches to take a 3-0 advantage. The number one tandem of sophomore All-Ohio Athletic Conference player Dominic Polifrone (Hudson) and sophomore Matt Harris (Akron/Revere), the second duo of senior Academic All-OAC players Nathan Katz (Upper Arlington/Bexley) and Jake Liebler (Medina) and the third unit of senior Brian Carano (Akron/Revere) and sophomore Roger Boyer (Medina/Brunswick) all won by identical scores of 8-2.
In singles action, the Yellow Jackets took all six matches. Polifrone won at first singles by scores of 6-0 and 6-2. Katz earned the win at second singles by scores of 6-1 and 6-2. Carano picked up the win at third singles by scores of 6-3 and 7-5. Harris won his match at fourth singles by identical scores of 6-0. Liebler secured the victory at fifth singles by scores of 6-1 and 6-0. Boyer captured sixth singles by scores of 6-1 and 6-0.
Penn State Behrend (3-2) has now lost two of its last three matches.
BW is back in action on Saturday, February 18 when it hosts a non-conference match against Franciscan University at the North Ridge Tennis and Golf Club at 5 p.m.
