BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University volleyball team lost a four-set Ohio Athletic Conference match to defending OAC regular season and tournament champion Heidelberg University in the Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center. 

BW (21-4, 3-3 OAC) dropped the match to Heidelberg (17-8, 5-1 OAC) by scores of 27-25, 24-26, 22-25 and 25-20.

Offensively, sophomore All-OAC outside hitter Alicia Lortcher (Norwalk) led the offensive attack with 18 kills.  Senior All-OAC middle hitter Nikolette Scruggs (Barberton) and junior outside hitter Ellen Hawkins (Worthington/Thomas Worthington) tallied 15 kills apiece.  Freshman outside hitter Allyson Smith (Macedonia/Northfield) contributed a career-high tying 12 kills for the second straight match. In addition, Scruggs had three services aces and Hawkins had two.

Freshman setters Shannon Ott (Milan/Edison) ran the offense with a career-high 57 assists.

Lortcher anchored the defense with a match-best 21 digs.  Sophomore libero Ashley Nuding (Perrysburg/Springfield) tallied 19 digs and senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC defensive specialist Arlayna Newcomer (Norwalk/St. Paul) added 12.  Junior defensive specialist Emily Daveant (North Ridgeville) added 10 digs.   Scruggs had a match-high six blocks while Hawkins and Lortcher each added three. 

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Saturday, October 22 when they travel to Westerville for an OAC match against Otterbein University in the Rike Center at 1 p.m.  BW returns home on Tuesday, October 25 when it hosts OAC leader Ohio Northern University in the Ursprung Gym at 7 p.m.
