Volleyball Defeats Otterbein in OAC Match on Seniors’ Day

BEREA, Ohio -- The Baldwin Wallace University volleyball team closed out the home portion of its regular season schedule with four-set victory Ohio Athletic Conference match against Otterbein University on Seniors' and Parents' Day in the Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center.

BW (22-5, 5-2 OAC), who went 7-1 at home this season, defeated Otterbein (11-16 2-5 OAC) by scores of 24-26, 25-17, 25-17 and 25-15.   The Yellow Jackets also snapped a six-match losing streak to the Cardinals.   The last BW victory against Otterbein came on October 21, 2008 when the Yellow Jackets posted straight victory at home.

Freshman outside hitter Alicia Lortcher (Norwalk) sparked the offense with a career-high tying and match-high 26 kills.  Freshman outside Morgan Thomas (Northfield/Nordonia) tallied 13 kills and junior middle hitter Nikolette Scruggs (Barberton) had 12.

Freshman setter Ashley Nuding (Perrysburg /Springfield) set up the offense with a match-best 60 assists.

Freshman libero Brittany Miner (Canton/Massillon) anchored the defense with a match-high 18 digs.  Lortcher added 12 digs while Nuding recorded nine digs and sophomore defensive specialist Melissa Metz (Medina/Our Lady of the Elms) contributed eight.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Tuesday, October 27 when they travel to Ada for a key OAC match against second-place Ohio Northern University in the ONU Sports Center at 7 p.m.    BW closes out the regular season on Saturday, October 31 when it travels to Bexley for an OAC match against Capital University in the Capital Center at 1 p.m.
