Volleyball Captures LaRoche College Tournament

PITTSBURGH, PA. -- The Baldwin Wallace University volleyball won all four of its matches and was the team champion at the LaRoche College Tournament on Scott Lang Court in the Kerr Fitness and Sports Center.
 
BW (4-1) defeated Oberlin College in straight sets by scores of 25-14, 25-15 and 25-23 to open the final day. The Yellow Jackets closed out the tournament with a three-set victory against Alfred (N.Y.) University by scores of 25-11 and 25-14 and 25-14.

BW offense was led by freshman outside hitter Morgan Thomas (Northfield/Nordonia) had 29 kills in the two matches, including a career-high 15 against Oberlin.  Freshman outside hitter Alicia Lortcher (Norwalk) tallied 27 kills against in the two matches, including a career-best tying 14 against Alfred.
 
Freshman setter Ashley Nuding (Perrysburg /Springfield) set up the offense with 68 assists, including a career-high 40 against Oberlin.  Nuding also had two service aces against Oberlin.
 
Defensively, freshman defensive specialist Brittany Miner (Canton/Massillon Perry) had a two match total of 36 digs, including 22 against Oberlin.
 
Also contributing in the matches, junior middle hitter Nikolette Scruggs (Barberton) had four service aces and sophomore defensive specialist Emily Daveant (North Ridgeville) contributed two service aces.
 
The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Wednesday, September 9 when it travels to nearby Oberlin to face Oberlin College for the second time in four days in the Philips Gymnasium inside the Philips Physical Education Building at 7 p.m. 
 
The annual Marcia French Memorial Invitational is slated for Friday and Saturday, September 11 and 12 in the Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center.  Action begins on Friday at 5:30 p.m. and 10 a.m. on Saturday.
