BEREA, OHIO -- Sophomore middle hitter Rachel Switalski (North Royalton/ Parma Heights Holy Name) had a team-high 10 kills, nine defensive digs and three service aces as the Baldwin-Wallace College volleyball team defeated Ohio Athletic Conference rival Marietta College, 3-0, today (Saturday, October 2, 2010) in the Ban Johnson Fieldhouse in Marietta. This was the OAC opener for B-W. The scores of the match were 25-16, 25-21 and 25-21. The victory was B-W's third straight.
In addition to Switalski on the front line, freshman outside hitter Shannon Deleur (Olmsted Falls) had eight kills, freshman MH Colleen Bonacci (Stow/ Stow-Munroe Falls) had seven kills, freshman OH Taylor Burns (Tiffin/ Fostoria St. Wendelin) had five kills and 14 digs and junior rightside player Chelsea Nissen (Wiliston/ Genoa) had five kills and 14 digs.
With its win, B-W is now 15-8 overall and 1-0 in the OAC and already has three times the number of victories it had all of last season. With its loss, Marietta is now 5-13 overall and 0-2 in the OAC.
Setting the offense was senior setter Casey Passen (Ashville/ Teays Valley) who had 22 set assists. The defense was led by sophomore Natalie Emmons (Ashland/ Senior) with 33 digs.
The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Wednesday, October 6 when it hosts OAC-rival Capital University in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in the Lou Higgins Center in Berea at 7:00 p.m.
