TERRA HAUTE, IND. – The Baldwin Wallace University women's track and field team opened the 2016 outdoor season and finished third at the Rose-Hulman (Ind.) Institute of Technology Early Bird Invitational in the William Welch Track & Field Complex.
The BW women were third of eight teams with 123 points. St. Norbert (Wis.) College won the meet with 214 points.
The Yellow Jackets were led by senior Kelsey Nemeth (Medina) won the 200-meter dash and was the runner-up in the 100-meter dash. Kelsey Nemeth had career-best time of 27.20 in the 200-meter and 13.08 in the 100-meter
In addition, senior All-OAC thrower Maggie Urban (Cleveland/St. Joseph Academy) won the hammer throw with a mark of 148'5". Junior jumper Erin Kasper (Amherst/Marion Steele) was the runner-up in the long jump and fourth in the triple jump. Kasper had a mark of 16 feet and 3.25 inches in the long jump and a career-best mark of 33'4. 75" in the triple jump. Sophomore thrower Madeline Ziccardi (Cuyahoga Falls) was the runner-up in the hammer with a career-best mark of 135'4".
Also, freshman sprinter Grace Nemeth (Medina) was third in both the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes. Grace Nemeth had career-best times of 13.28 in the 100-meter and 27.37 in the 200-meter. Junior thrower Natasha Thomas (Cleveland/Holy Name) was third in the hammer and with a career-best mark of 128'9". Junior thrower Kasey Clouse (Norwalk/Western Reserve) placed third in the shot put with a career-best mark of 38' 6.75". Senior Abby Snow (Massillon/Jackson) was third in the javelin with a mark of 103'11". Junior hurdler Lyndsey Armstrong (Ashtabula/Geneva) was third in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 16.31 seconds. Sophomore jumper Rachel Tucker (Canton / McKinley) was fourth in the triple jump with a career-best mark of 32'11". Sophomore distance runner Maeve Christie (Lakewood) took fourth in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:27.62.
In relay action, the 4x100-meter team was second in a time of 50.73. The 4x400-meter team was fifth in a time of 4:26.69.
The Yellow Jacket outdoor track and field teams are back in action on Friday and Saturday, April 1-2 when they travel to Wooster to compete in the Wooster Invitational in the John P. Papp Stadium. Friday's events begin at 4 p.m. and events are slated for an 11 a.m. start on Saturday.
BW WON DIVISION III NATIONAL INDOOR TITLE: The BW women won the 2016 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field National Championship title on March 11-12 in Grinnell, Iowa.
MISSING AT ROSE-HULMAN: At Rose-Hulman, BW competed without 10-time Div. III All-American heptahthlete Melanie Winters (Stow/ Stow-Munroe Falls) and 5-time Div. III All-American thrower Kim Gallavan (Auburn Township/ Kenston) and Kasper, who earned indoor All-America honors in the high jump, did not compete in her specialty!
