GRANVILLE, Ohio – Baldwin Wallace University senior two-time indoor All-American multi-event athlete Melanie Winters (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) successfully defended her title and junior multi-event athlete Rachel Holowecky (Amherst/Firelands) placed ninth at the All-Ohio Division III Combined Events Championships hosted by Denison University in the Mitchell Fieldhouse.
Winters finished first of 16 pentathletes with a school-record, meet-record and Mitchell Fieldhouse record 3,651 points as she won three events. Winters won the 60-meter hurdles in a meet-record, school-record tying and Mitchell Fieldhouse record time of 8.80 seconds for 935 points, the high jump with a mark of five feet and seven inches for 855 points and the long jump with a meet-record and Mitchell Fieldhouse record mark of 18'9" for 762 points. She was third in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:36.00 for 620 points and fifth in the shot put with a mark of 30'3.5" for 479 points.
Winters now holds the meet record and Mitchell Fieldhouse record in the 60-meter hurdles (8.80 seconds), the long jump (18'9") and points in the pentathlon with 3,651.
Holowecky was ninth of 16 competitors with career-best 2,930 points. She was fifth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:37.09 for 607 points tied for seventh in the high jump with a career-best tying mark of 5'1" for 678 points, 10th in the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 9.90 seconds for 731 points, 10th in the shot put with a career-best throw of 27'2.75" for 419 points and12th in the long jump with a mark of 15'7.5" for 495 points.
The Yellow Jacket indoor track and field teams are back in action on Friday, February 12 when they host the annual Mid-February Meet on the Harrison Dillard Track inside the Lou Higgins Center Fieldhouse. Field events begin at 4 p.m. with running events slated to start at 5:30 p.m.
BW then travels to Westerville on Saturday, February 13 to compete in the All-Ohio Division III Indoor Championships hosted by Otterbein University in the Clements Recreation Center.
