WILMINGTON, Ohio – In a game dominated by restarts and a strong wind, three free kick goals comprised all the scoring as the Baldwin Wallace University women's soccer team fell 2-1 to Wilmington College for the team's first loss in the Ohio Athletic Conference this season.

The majority of the first half passed uneventfully with both teams battled for possession in the midfield. Whenever the Yellow Jackets (8-4-1, 1-1-1 OAC) were able to penetrate the offensive third, they were stymied by a crowded and organized Quaker defense, preventing BW from finding its offensive rhythm. Senior Academic All-OAC defender Lauren Haynam (Minerva) finally broke through the barrier in the 43rd minute when she scored on a free kick from 20 yards out for her second goal of the season, giving the Yellow Jackets a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.

Wilmington (5-5-2, 1-1-1 OAC) tied the game at one off a free kick by Mellonee Hall in the 63rd minute and took the lead in the 82nd minute off another free kick, this time by Hanna Greaney from the middle of the field 37 yards away.

Sophomore goalkeeper Emma Bruno (Pittsburgh, Pa./Bethel Park) made a career-high nine saves in the game while facing 11 shots on goal. However, Wilmington's two free kick goals made the difference as the sophomore recorded just her second loss this season in the net.

The Quakers held the advantage in shots taken 18-15 and put 12 of their 18 shots on goal. Meanwhile, only four of the Yellow Jackets' 15 shots were on target.

BW will look to rebound and get back in the win column when the Yellow Jackets host OAC and crosstown rival John Carroll University (6-3-2, 2-0-1 OAC) on Tuesday, Oct. 10, at 7 p.m. inside George Finnie Stadium.
