Yellow Jacket Men and Women Swimmers and Divers Split versus JCU in Berea; Men Win, But Women Lose

BEREA, OHIO --  The Baldwin Wallace University swimming and diving teams split a dual meet today (Saturday, January 29, 2011) in an Ohio Athletic Conference dual meet against OAC and Cleveland cross-town rival John Carroll University in the BW Natatorium in the Lou Higgins Center in Berea on Seniors' and Parents' Day.

The BW men defeated the Blue Streaks, 138.5-103.5, to improve to 7-5-1 overall and 3-1 in the OAC, while the Yellow Jacket women lost to JCU, 120.5-116.5, and are now 2-11 overall and 0-4 in the OAC.  The 2011 OAC Championship Meet is next for BW. That takes place from Thursday through Saturday, February 17-19 at the University of Akron.

Highlighting the meet for BW was the performances of its two All-American divers in 6-time All-American Todd Richert (North Royalton) and 2-time All-American in sophomore Julie Pinter (Broadview Heights/ Brecksville-Broadview Hts.). Richert set the school and pool records in the 1-meter voluntary diving event with 209.18 points and captured the 1-meter optional event with 343.43 points. He remains undefeated this season against NCAA Division III competition. Pinter set the school records in the 1-meter voluntary event with 205.12 points and the 1-meter optional event with 306.60 points.

In addition for the men, freshman Patrick Donohoe (Columbus/ Bishop Watterson) won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:04.02 and the 500-yard freestyle in 4:57.01. Also winning for the men were Hector Diaz (El Paso, Texas/ Cathedral) in the 100 yard fly in a time of 57.80, his brother Elier Diaz (El Paso, Texas/ Americas) won the 100 meter backstroke recording a time of 58.12. Rounding out the men's winners was senior Ryan Musille (Canton/ GlenOak) who placed a time 59.94 in the 100 meter breaststroke.

In addition for the women, freshman Angela Musille (Canton/ GlenOak) won the 500 free in 5:32.19 and 100-yard breaststroke in 1:12.09. Also winning for the women were Kelsey Richards (Wadsworth) in the 50 yard free in a time of 26.82, and Lauren Sheafer (Westlake) in the 100 yard free finishing with a time of 58.01.
