BW Men's Golf Team Finishes Second at the Nye Intercollegiate at Wooster; OAC Tourney is Next

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University men's golf team shot a final round of 306 strokes to finish second of 15 teams today (Saturday, April 24) at the 2010 Nye Intercollegiate Tournament hosted by the College of Wooster at Wooster Country Club in Wooster, Ohio.


The Yellow Jackets carded a 306 to go with a first round total of 301 strokes for a two-day and 36-hole total of 607 strokes.  NAIA Malone University was the team champion and BW had the best finish of any NCAA Division III school each of the two days.

Yellow Jacket junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference player Matt Weiss (Concord/ Mentor) led the team by firing a school-record round of 68 on the first day and a 79 today to finish with a 36-hole total of 147 strokes. Weiss was seeking to win his second straight Nye Intercollegiate medalist award. He won that honor last season when he fired consecutive rounds of 76 for a two-day and 36-hole total of 152 strokes.

In addition to Weiss, senior 2-time All-OAC player Nick Bryan (Zanesville/Rosecrans) was second with rounds of 75 yesterday and 74 today for a 149-stroke total. Also, senior All-OAC player Mike Falk (Strongsville) was third with rounds of 81 yesterday and a team-low 73 today for a 154-stroke total, freshman Stephen Spalding (Stow/Walsh Jesuit) shot a 77 yesterday and an 81 today for a 158-stroke total, and sophomore Ricky Jaskolski (North Royalton/Parma Padua Franciscan) carded rounds of 83 and 80 for a 163-stroke total.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action at the 2010 Ohio Athletic Conference Championship Tournament on Saturday and Sunday, April 30-May 1, at Tannenhauf Golf Club in Alliance, Ohio.  Mount Union College is the host school.
