BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's tennis team dropped a highly contested rescheduled non-conference match by a final score of 5-4 versus NCAA Division II Clarion (Pa.) University on the Pop Collins Tennis Courts.
BW (10-7), who snapped a three-match winning streak, trailed 2-1 after doubles play. The number one tandem of senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC player Kelsey Blatt (Tallmadge) and freshman Imani Robinson (Cincinnati/School for Creative & Performing Arts) picked up the lone victory with a hard-fought 9-7 decision to improved their record to a team-leading 13-7.
Clarion (4-7) won three of six singles matches, including the final two decisive matches in three sets. Robinson won at second singles by scores of 6-2, 7-6 and 7-5 in the tiebreaker as she improved to 13-8 in her first campaign. Senior Mackenzie Donalson (Hilliard/Davidson) took fourth singles by scores of 6-3 and 6-0 and is now a team-best 15-5. Sophomore Shannon Finkenthal (Beachwood) earned a victory at sixth singles by scores of 7-6, 7-5 in the tiebreaker and 6-2 to increase her season mark to 10-7.
BW is back in action on Monday, April 18 when it hosts a non-conference match against the College of Wooster on the Pop Collins Tennis Courts at 4:30 p.m. The Yellow Jackets return to OAC play on Wednesday, April 20 when they host Ohio Northern University at 3:30 p.m.
