Women’s Tennis Splits Doubleheader to Open Spring Portion of Schedule

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's tennis team split a pair of non-conference road matches to open its spring portion of the 2015-16 schedule.

The Yellow Jackets (2-2) first traveled to Kalamazoo, Michigan and defeated by No. 38-nationally ranked Kalamazoo College by a final score of 9-0 in the Markin Racquet Center.  BW then traveled to Albion, Michigan and defeated Albion College by a final score of 8-1 on the Dow Courts.

Against the Hornets, the number one doubles team of senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC player player Kelsey Blatt (Tallmadge) and freshman Imani Robinson (Cincinnati /School for Creative & Performing Arts) had the closest match in doubles play as they fell by a score of 8-5.   Sophomore number six singles player Kelly Peskura (Strongsville) dropped a hard fought three set match by scores of 4-6, 6-1 and 10-8 in her first collegiate match.

Against the Britons, BW gained a 3-0 advantage as Blatt and Robinson won at first doubles by a score of 8-1.  Junior Claire Watts (Medina/Highland) and senior Mackenzie Donalson (Hilliard/Davidson) won at second doubles by a score of 8-5.  Freshman Kathleen Moser (Strongsville) and sophomore Shannon Finkenthal (Beachwood) won at third singles by a score of 9-7.

In singles action, the Yellow Jackets won their matches at first, second and fourth, Blatt won her a three set match at first singles by scores of 1-6, 7-6 and 7-4 in the tie breaker and 6-3.  Robinson won at second singles by scores of 7-6 and 7-3 in the tie breaker and 6-4.  Donalson won at fourth singles in straight sets by score of 6-4 and 6-2. Moser won at fifth singles in three sets by scores of 0-6, 7-6 and 7-4 in the tie breaker and 10-7.  Peskura won her first collegiate match at sixth singles in straight sets by identical scores of 6-1.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Saturday, February 13 when they travel to nearby Oberlin for a non-conference match against No. 39-nationally ranked Oberlin College in the Heisman Field House at 11:30 a.m.
