Women’s Tennis Defeats Muskingum on Seniors’ and Parents’ Day

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's tennis team completed the regular season portion of its 2015-2016 schedule with a 9-0 shutout win against Ohio Athletic Conference rival Muskingum University on the Pop Collins Tennis Courts.  The shutout was BW's sixth this season.

BW (13-9, 5-3 OAC) won all three doubles matches from Muskingum (1-12, 1-7 OAC). The tandem of senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC player Kelsey Blatt (Tallmadge) and freshman Imani Robinson (Cincinnati /School for Creative & Performing Arts) earned a victory at first doubles by a score of 8-1 and now are a team-best 16-8 on the year.  The win also was the 48th of Blatt's career and moved her into 13th place all-time.

In addition in doubles, senior Mackenzie Donalson (Hilliard/Davidson) and junior Claire Watts (Medina/Highland) won at No.2 doubles, 8-1, to improve to 11-12 this season. The win was the 42nd in Donalson's career. She is 21st all-time. Also, senior Mackenzi Baker (Vermillion/Elyria Catholic) and freshman Kathleen Moser (Strongsville) took third doubles by a score of 8-0 and upped their record to 3-1.

The Yellow Jackets won all six singles matches to secure the win.  Blatt earned the win at first singles by scores of 6-2 and 6-1 and is now 13-12 on the season and was her 41st career victory and moved her into 20th place on the all-time Yellow Jacket win chart.   Robinson picked up the victory at second singles by scores of 6-1 and 6-2 as she improved to 16-9 in her first collegiate campaign. Watts took third singles by scores of 6-0 and 6-0 as she improved to 12-12 this season. Donalson improved her team-best record to 18-5 as she captured fourth singles by scores of 6-0 and 6-1.  It also was her 45th career victory and ranks her in a tie for 17th all-time.

In addition in singles, sophomore Kelly Peskura (Strongsville) earned the win at fifth singles by scores of 6-0 and 6-0 and upped her record to 12-8 in her first season. Shannon Finkenthal (Beachwood) won at sixth singles by scores of 6-1 and 6-0 to increase her season mark to 12-8.

BW is back in action on Tuesday, May 3 when it hosts an OAC Tournament quarterfinal match when the fourth-seeded Yellow Jackets host the fifth-seeded University of Mount Union Purple Raiders on the Pop Collins Tennis Courts at 3:30 p.m.

The OAC Tournament semifinal and championship matches will be played on Friday, May 6 and Saturday, May 7 at the Linder Tennis Family Center in Mason, Ohio. The winner of the OAC Tournament receives an automatic berth in the 2016 NCAA Division III National Tournament.
