15th-Ranked BW Wrestlers Beat Muskingum, 50-4; Extend Record

NEW CONCORD, Ohio –  With a majority of its starters getting a rest, the 15th-ranked (January 8, 2015 National Wrestling Coaches Association Division III national poll) Baldwin Wallace University wrestling team defeated Ohio Athletic Conference rival Muskingum University, 50-4, on Performance Court in the Muskingum Recreation Center.

The victory was BW's ninth straight in dual match action, and extended the Yellow Jackets' single-season school-record to 15 victories with a 15-4 overall and 2-0 OAC record.

BW gained a commanding 18-0 lead with forfeit victories at 125, 133 and 141 pounds. The Yellow Jackets added two pins, a technical fall and a decision en route to a 38-0 lead. Following a major decision with a 184 pounds for the Fighting Muskies that closed the deficit to 38-4, BW closed out the match with a pair of pins for the 50-4 win.

Leading the way for the Yellow Jackets were freshman 149-pounder RJ Martin (Sunbury/Big Walnut), sophomore Graham Montague (Independence), freshman 197-pounder Tyler Maclellan (Medina/CVCA) and junior 285-pounder Joe Belford (Berea/St. Edward) who all recorded pins. Martin improved to 10-6 this season when he pinned Muskingum's Ben Barnhart-Sullivan in 4:27. Montague improved to 12-9 when he pinned Muskingum's Caleb Cox in 1:06. Maclellan improved to 9-5 when he pinned Muskingum's Zach Mullet at 5:44. Belford improved to 10-6 when he pinned Muskingum's Grayson Miller at 2:36. 

In addition, freshman 157-pounder Grant Rathburn (New Albany/Columbus Bishop Hartley) improved to 12-7 with a 20-6 technical fall at 5:03, sophomore 165-pounder Seamus Bermingham (Orchard Park, N.Y.) improved to 12-6 with a 4-0 decision

Receiving forfeit wins were freshman 125-pounder Sean Kuklisin (Streetsboro), who improved to 5-12 this season; junior 133-pounder Jake Landers (Liberty Twp./Lakota East), who improved to 4-5 overall; and sophomore 141-pounder Zack Taylor (Hinckley/Brunswick), who improved to 13-8 overall.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Friday and Saturday, January 30-31 when they travel to Wheaton, Illinois to participate in the annual Pete Wilson Invitational hosted by Wheaton College.  The next home meet is on February 3 when BW hosts No.7-ranked the University of Mount Union in an OAC dual in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center at 7:30 p.m.
