13th-Ranked BW Wrestlers Compete at Mt. Union Duals

BEREA, Ohio – The 13th-ranked Baldwin Wallace University wrestling team ad a 2-2 record at the annual University of Mount Union Duals in the McPherson Academic & Athletic Complex.

The Yellow Jackets (6-4) lost to No.2-ranked Messiah (Pa.) College, 21-18, in its opening match, beat Washington & Jefferson (Pa.), 30-7, College in its second match, lost to York (Pa.) College, 22-17, in its third match, and beat Mo.17-ranked Waynesburg (Pa.) University, 35-8, in its final match.  

Overall, BW was led by junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference 165-pounder David Shapiro (Beachwood), who is ranked fifth in Division III by the NWCA (National Wrestling Coaches Association), and junior 174-pounder Garrett Chase (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) who each had a 4-0 record.  

Shapiro won by forfeit in his first match against Messiah, won by a major decision versus W&J, won by decision versus York and pinned his Waynesburg opponent. Chase won by decision against his opponents from Messiah, W&J and York and pinned his opponent from Waynesburg.  

In addition, freshman 125-pounder Chris Doyle (Uniontown/Green), sophomore Josh Decatur (Akron/ CVCA), junior Academic All-OAC 184-pounder Ben LeBrun (Strongsville) and sophomore 197-pounder Andrew Shackelford (Waorthington/Thomas Worthington) each had a 3-1 mark.  Junior 149-pounder Joe Schmidt (Hinckley/Brunswick) had a 2-2 slate.  

The BW wrestlers are back in action on Saturday, December 5-6 when they travels to Grantham, Pennsylvania to compete at the Messiah Petrofes Invitational. Action begins on Friday, Dec. 5 at 12 noon and resumes on Saturday, Dec. 6 at 9:30 a.m.
