BW’s Chase is OAC Wrestler of Week

BEREA, Ohio --  Baldwin Wallace University junior 174-pound wrestler Garrett Chase (Erie, Pa./ Cathedral Prep), who is ranked ninth at 174 pounds in the most recent (December 9, 2014) National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) NCAA Division III individual rankings, had a 4-0 record and led the 23rd-ranked Yellow Jackets to a perfect 4-0 mark, including three wins against ranked opponents at the United States Merchant Marine Academy Duals in Great Neck, N.Y.

Chase improved to 17-3 overall this season with a win, a technical fall (17-0) and two decisions. He pinned James Malone of USMMA in 2:37, won by technical fall and 17-0 against David Garkusa of No.24-ranked Hunter (N.Y.) College, beat Michael Labell of No.18-ranked Johnson & Wales (R.I.) University, 12-7, and topped Dan Ressler of No. 15-ranked Roger Williams (R.I.) University, 7-2.

The BW wrestlers are now idle until January 10, 2015 when they will compete at the Spartan Mat Duals at Manchester (Ind.) University. The next home match is on Tuesday, Jan. 20 when BW hosts Ohio Athletic Conference and Cleveland cross-town rival John Carroll University in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in the Lou Higgins Center at 7:30 p.m.
