BW Wrestlers Open Season at CWRU Wrestling Festival

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Baldwin Wallace University wrestling team competed in the Bob Del Rosa Duals and the Claude Sharer Classic as a part of the Case Western Reserve University Wrestling Festival in the Veale Center.

In the Bob Del Rosa Duals, the Yellow Jackets won two of the four matches.   BW lost to NCAA Division II Ohio Valley University by a score of 21-18, defeated Niagara County Community College (N.Y.) by a score of 31-15, fell to Alma (Mich.) College by a score of 20-12 and defeated NAIA St. Catharine (Ky.) College by a score of 39-6.

Junior All-American 125-pounder Jesse Gunter (Akron/Coventry) led the way as he posted a record of 4-0. Gunter won his first match with a majority decision of 16-2 against Tyree Gardner of Ohio Valley University and then beat Deshawn Oliver of Niagra County Community College by a technical fall of 17-1 in his second match. In his last two matches, Gunter defeated Victor Sosa-Sevilla of Alma College by a decision of 4-0 and won by forfeit in the final match.

In addition, junior 174-pounder Garrett Chase (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) posted a 3-1 record and junior 184-pounder Ben LeBrun (Strongsville) finished with record of 3-0. Chase won his first match with a 17-1 technical fall against Austin Hill of Ohio Valley. He defeated Shane Currey of Niagra in his second match with a 5-0 decision. Chase lost in his third match, but came back to win his fourth match with a 7-2 decision against Bernard Ray of St. Catherine College.  LeBrun won his first two matches by forfeit and defeated Caleb Huff of Alma College by decision, 10-6, in his third match.

In the Claude Sharer Classic, freshman 285-pounder Nick Nader (Gahanna/Lincoln) led the Yellow Jackets with a record of 3-0.

BW is back in action on Friday, November 14 when it opens the home portion of its schedule with a non-conference dual match with the College of Mount St. Joseph in the Ursprung Gymnasium at 7 p.m.   The Yellow Jackets will then travel to Angola, Indiana on Saturday, November 15 to compete in the Trine (Ind.) University Invitational.
