15th-Ranked BW Wrestlers Pick Up OAC Victory Against Rival John Carroll

BEREA, Ohio – The 15th-nationally ranked (National Wrestling Coaches Association poll) Baldwin Wallace University wrestling team defeated Ohio Athletic Conference and Cleveland cross-town rival John Carroll University, 25-18, in a dual match in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center.

The Yellow Jackets (11-4 overall, 1-0 OAC) have now won two straight against John Carroll (5-6, 0-1 OAC).  BW is one win shy of tying the school-record for wins in a season which was set during the 2006-07 season.

Leading the way for the Yellow Jackets were junior No. 10-ranked 174-pounder Garrett Chase (Erie, Pa. /Cathedral Prep) and junior 285-pounder Joe Belford (Berea/St. Edward) Chase won by major decision against Tyler Hardtke by a score of 10-0 and Belford pinned Mike Andelbradt in 1:06.

Winning by decision were sophomore 141-pounder Josh Decatur (Akron/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy), junior 184-pounder Ben LeBrun (Strongsville) and freshman 197-pounder Tyler Maclellan (Medina/ Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy). Decatur defeated John Connick by a score of 5-2 decision, LeBrun beat Danny McNamara by a score of 5-3 and Maclellan defeated Todd Gaydosh by a count of 3-2.

In addition, freshman 125-pounder Chris Doyle (Uniontown/Green) won by forfeit.

BW is back in action this Friday, January 23 when it travels to Greenville, Pennsylvania to participate in the Mel Berry Duals hosted by Thiel College.  The Yellow Jackets will take on Rochester (N.Y.) Institute of Technology at 4 p.m., Mercyhurst (Pa.) North East at 5:30 p.m. and Thiel at 7 p.m.   The next home match is on Tuesday, February 3 when the team hosts and OAC dual against No.7-ranked the University of Mount Union in the Ursprung Gym at 7:30 p.m.
