Softball Rallies in Second Game to Earn OAC Split with Mount Union

ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team rallied two times in its second game to earn an Ohio Athletic Conference split with the University of Mount Union on the 23rd Street Field. 

Mount Union (8-12, 1-3 OAC) won the first game by a final score of 3-2.  BW (7-8, 2-2 OAC) scored all of its runs in the final two innings after trailing 3-0 to earn a 7-6 victory in the nightcap.

In game one, the Yellow Jackets scored two runs on six hits as they plated a run in the second and fourth innings.   The Purple Raiders scored three runs on 10 hits as they scored two runs in the second and added the insurance run in the fifth inning.

BW had six players each record a base knock led by junior third baseman Sami Minor (North Royalton) and sophomore first baseman as he had a double.  Albrecht knocked in the team's last run.

In the circle, senior righty Sam Mott (Frewsburg, N.Y./Central) took the loss as she allowed three runs on 10 hits with seven strikeouts and three walks in six innings pitched.

In game two, the Yellow Jackets scored seven runs on nine hits as it plated six runs in the sixth inning and got the game-winning RBI single in the seventh inning from freshman first baseman Mackenzie Milligan (Cleveland/St. Joseph Academy).   Mount Union scored six runs on nine hits as it scored one run in the first, two runs in the third and three runs in the sixth.

The BW offense was led by Albrecht as she went 2-for-3 with a double, a run batted-in (RBI) and a walk.  Freshman left fielder Hailey Owens (Lakewood) recorded her first career multi-hit game as she went 2-for-3 with a career-high tying two RBIs a walk and a run scored.  Junior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC right fielder Alexis Boledovic (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark) was 2-for-4 with a RBI.  Mott came off the bench for a pinch-hit double that scored two runs. 

In the circle, sophomore righty Nikki Turner (Hudson) earned her second win of the season and her first OAC victory as she allowed six runs on nine hits with three strikeouts. The seven-innings pitched were a career-best for Turner.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Tuesday, April 3 when they host their first of three home doubleheaders against Hiram College at 3:30 p.m.  BW then hosts an OAC doubleheader against crosstown rival John Carroll University on Wednesday, April 4 at 3 p.m.  The Yellow Jackets close out the homestand when they host a non-conference doubleheader against Oberlin College on Thursday, April 5 at 3:30 p.m.
