Softball Sweeps Week Closes with a Pair of Victories Over Capital

BEXLEY, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team completed a undefeated week, won six straight games and earned three Ohio Athletic Conference sweeps as it defeated Capital University at Clowson Field.

BW (16-14, 9-7 OAC) won its second straight shutout as it won game one by a final score of 7-0.   The Yellow Jackets scored a season-high 14 runs in the nightcap to take the series finale by a score of 14-7.

In game one, the Yellow Jackets scored seven runs on a season-high tying 17 hits as they plated one run in the first, two in the second, one in the fourth and three in the sixth.  Capital (6-28, 2-14 OAC) was held scoreless for the seventh time on the season with six hits.

The BW offense was led by junior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC right fielder Alexis Boledovic (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark) and freshman third baseman Alex Dick (Elyria) as each had three base knocks, which was a career-best for DickBoledovic was 3-for-5 with a double, two runs batted-in and one run scored.  Dick was 3-for-4 with a RBI.  Senior designated player/pitcher Sam Mott (Frewsburg, N.Y./Central), junior All-OAC shortstop Erica English (North Olmsted), junior left fielder Abbie Thompson (Madison) and sophomore second baseman Alex Kozich (Avon) all had two base hits.  Sophomore center fielder Macy Leach (Westerville/Central) and freshmen pincher hitters Hailey Blankenship and Mackenzie Milligan (Cleveland/St. Joseph Academy) each tallied a hit, which was the first for Blankenship in her career.

In the circle, freshman left-hander Abby Cosart (Lima/Bath) pitched second career shutout of the season as she allowed no runs on six hits with two strikeouts and did not allow a walk.

In game two, the Yellow Jackets scored 14 runs on a season-high tying 17 hits as it plated four runs in the first, six in the second, one in the third, two in the sixth and one in the seventh.  The Crusaders scored seven runs on 12 hits as it pushed four runs across the plate in the first, one each in the second, fourth and fifth.

The BW offense was led by English and Leach as each were 4-for-5 with a career-high tying three RBIs.   Kozich was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored.  Dick was 2-for-4 with a career-high two RBIs.

In the circle, Mott got the start but only lasted one inning as she allowed five runs on five hits with one strikeout.   Cosart picked up her second win of the day and her team leading OAC sixth win of the season as she allowed two runs on seven hits with two strikeouts in the final six innings.

The Yellow Jackets close out the regular season portion of their schedule on Saturday, April 28 when it hosts an OAC and Seniors' and Parents' Day doubleheader against Otterbein University on the BW Softball Field at the Roehm Athletic Complex at 1 p.m.
