Softball Sweeps on Final Day of Diamond 9 Sunkissed March Games

KISSIMMEE, Fla. The Baldwin Wallace University softball team picked up its second straight split on day four of the Diamond 9 Sunkissed March Games at Osceola County Softball Complex. 

BW won the first game of the day by knocking off Montclair State (N.J.) University by a final score of 6-1.  The Yellow Jackets completed the sweep as it defeated DeSales (Pa.) College by a final score of 12-9 in the nightcap.

In game one, BW scored a scored six runs on seven hits as it plated two runs in the first and four in the third inning.  Montclair State scored one run on four hits and got its lone in the sixth inning. 

The Yellow Jackets were led by junior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC right fielder Alexis Boledovic (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark) as she went 3-for-4 with a run scored. Junior All-OAC shortstop Erica English (North Olmsted) went 2-for-2 with a run batted-in (RBI) and a run scored.  Sophomore first baseman Hannah Albrecht (Riverside, Calif./Chaminade College Prep) was one 1-for2 with a RBI, walk and run scored.  Junior third baseman/catcher Sami Minor (North Royalton) was 1-for-1 with two walks and two runs scored.

In the circle, senior Sam Mott (Frewsburg, N.Y./Central) earned her third win of the season as she allowed one run on four hits with two strikeouts and one walk in seven innings pitched. 

In game two, BW scored a season-high 12 runs on a season-best 13 hits as they plated four runs in the first, five in the third, one in the fourth and two in the sixth.  DeSales scored nine runs on eight hits as it pushed five runs across the plate in the second, one in the third and three in the sixth. 

The Yellow Jackets were led by Minor as she went 3-for-3 with a double, walk, two RBIs and four runs scored.  Albrecht went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs. English went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Junior left fielder Abbie Thompson (Madison) was 2-for-4 with a run scored.  Sophomore designated player Nikki Turner (Hudson) was 1-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and a run scored.  Sophomore center fielder Macy Leach (Westerville/Central) was 1-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored. Boledovic was 1-for-4 with a RBI and run scored.

In the circle, freshman lefty Abby Cosart (Lima/Bath) earned her first collegiate win as she allowed six runs (five earned) on five hits with three strikeouts and four walks in two innings.  Mott earned her second career save as she pitched the final five innings and allowed three runs (two earned) on three hits with one strikeout and six walks.

BW is back in action on Wednesday, March 21 when it plays its home opening doubleheader on its new all-turf softball field against Franciscan University at 3 p.m.
