Softball Falls to Crosstown Rival John Carroll in Rescheduled OAC Doubleheader

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team fell to crosstown rival John Carroll University in a rescheduled Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader on the BW Softball Field at the Roehm Athletic Complex.

BW (8-10, 2-4) and John Carroll (9-8, 4-2 OAC) were originally scheduled to play on Wednesday afternoon but the games were postponed due to inclement weather.

The Blue Streaks won the first game by a score of 5-3 and scored fun runs in the final two innings to take the nightcap by a score of 9-7.

In game one, the Yellow Jackets scored three runs on 12 hits as they plated one run in the fourth and two in the fifth.  John Carroll scored five runs on six hits as it scored all of its runs in the sixth inning

The BW offense was led by junior All-OAC shortstop Erica English (North Olmsted) and freshman right fielder Hailey Owens (Lakewood) as each went 2-for-4 with a double.  Owens recorded her second career multi hit game and had a career-high tying two runs batted-in (RBI) and her second career double.   Senior pitcher Sam Mott (Frewsburg, N.Y./Central) and junior left fielder Abbie Thompson (Madison) each went 2-for-3.  Senior catcher Tori Young (Tallmadge), junior designated player/right fielder Alexis Boledovic (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark), junior third baseman/catcher Sami Minor (North Royalton) and sophomore first baseman Hannah Albrecht (Riverside, Calif./Chaminade College Prep) all had a base knock while Boledovic had a RBI.

In the circle, Mott took the loss as she allowed five runs (two earned) on six hits with eight strikeouts.

In game two, the Yellow Jackets scored seven runs on 11 hits as they plated four runs in the second and three runs in the fourth.  The Blue Streaks scored nine runs on 12 hits as it scored four runs in the second, one in the fourth and two each in the sixth and seventh innings.

The BW attack was led by Boledovic as she went 3-for-4 with a RBI and two runs scored.  Albrecht and sophomore center fielder Macy leach (Westerville/Central) each went 2-for-4.  Leach tallied a double, RBI and two runs scored and a career-high five putouts.  English, Minor, Thompson and sophomore pitcher Nikki Turner (Hudson) all had a base hit with English had a double and RBI.  Turner had a double and two runs scored.  Minor and Thompson each tallied two RBIs.

In the circle, Turner suffered her first loss of the season as she allowed nine runs on 11 hits with two strikeouts.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Sunday, April 8 when they travel to Wilmington for an OAC doubleheader against Wilmington College at the Wilmington Softball Complex.  Game one of the doubleheader is slated to begin at 2 p.m.   BW next plays at home on Monday, April 9 when it hosts a rescheduled non-conference doubleheader against Oberlin College at 4 p.m.
