Softball Drops a Pair of Games on Day 2 of Sunkissed March Games

KISSIMMEE, Fla. The Baldwin Wallace University softball team continued its trip to the Sunshine State as it dropped a pair of games on day two of the Diamond 9 Sunkissed March at Osceola County Softball Complex. 

BW dropped its opening game by a final score of 5-1 to Alfred (N.Y.) University.   The Yellow Jackets closed out the day as it fell in an exciting extra inning affair to Montclair State (N.J.) University by a final score of 4-3 in eight innings.

In game one, BW scored one run on seven hits as it plated its lone run in the fifth inning.  Alfred scored five runs on eight hits as it pushed one run across the plate in the first and four in the fourth.

BW was led by junior All-OAC right fielder Alexis Boledovic (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark) and sophomore centerfielder Macy Leach (Westerville/Central) as each were 2-for-4 with Three other Yellow Jackets had a base knock with senior pitcher Sam Mott (Frewsburg, N.Y./Central) providing the only run batted-in (RBI) and junior third baseman Sami Minor (North Royalton) having the only extra base hit with a double.

In the circle, Mott took the loss as she allowed five runs (two earned) on seven hits with two strikeouts and two walks.  Freshman lefty Abby Cosart (Lima/Bath) pitched the final inning and did not allow a run on one hit.

In game two, BW scored three runs on six hits as it scored all three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.  Montclair State scored four runs on five hits as it plated three runs in the third and one in the eighth.

The Yellow Jackets were led by Boledovic as she once again went 2-for-4.  Four other BW players had a base hit.  Junior All-OAC shortstop Erica English (North Olmsted), who made the defensive play off the game as she made a diving snag and then doubled up the runner at second base, had the lone extra base with a double and had an RBI.  Freshman leftfielder Hailey Owens (Lakewood) knocked in two runs on her lone hit of the game.

In the circle, sophomore righty Nikki Turner (Hudson) pitched four innings and allowed three runs on four hits with three strikeouts and three walks.  Mott took the loss in relief as she pitched the final four innings and allowed one unearned run on one hit with three strikeouts and one walk.

The Yellow Jackets continue the Diamond 9 March Sunkissed Games with games against Emerson (Mass.) College and Widener (Pa.) College at 3:45 and 6 p.m.
