Softball Drops OAC Doubleheader to Otterbein

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team dropped an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader to Otterbein University on the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds Field. 

Otterbein (19-4, 4-0 OAC) won the first game by a final score of 12-4 in five innings and took the second game by a score of 13-3 in five innings. 

In game one, BW (7-9, 1-3 OAC) scored four runs on seven hits as it plated one run in the fourth and three in the fifth.  The Cardinals tallied 12 runs on 17 hits as it scored seven runs in the first and five in the second 

The Yellow Jackets were led by junior catcher Tori Young (Tallmadge) and freshman second baseman Alex Kozich (Avon) as each had two base hits.  Young went 2-for-2 with two runs batted-in (RBIs) and Kozich was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored.  Senior Academic All-OAC left fielder/pitcher Mackenzie Nelsen (Powell/Dublin Scioto), sophomore All-OAC shortstop Erica English (North Olmsted) and sophomore All-OAC center fielder Alexis Boledovic (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark) each had a base knock.  Boledovic had the lone extra base hit for BW as she recorded her fourth double of the season. 

In the circle, junior Sam Mott (Frewsburg, N.Y./Central) took the loss as she pitched one-third of an inning and allowed seven runs on nine hits with a strikeout and walk.  Senior Academic All-OAC pitcher Erica Morgan (Brook Park/Midpark) pitched one and two-thirds innings and allowed five runs on five hits with a strikeout.  Nelsen pitched the final three innings and did not surrender a run and allowed three hits with one walk.

In game two, the Yellow Jackets scored three runs on seven hits as it plated one run in the first and two in the fourth.  Otterbein scored 13 runs on 13 hits as it scored two runs in the first, one in the second and 10 in the third. 

BW was led by Nelsen and Boledovic as each went 2-for-3.  English, Kozich and freshman first baseman Hannah Albrecht (Northridge, Calif./Chaminade College Prep) all had a base knock.  Kozich and Albrecht each tallied a RBI.

In the circle, freshman Nikki Turner (Hudson) took the loss as she allowed 12 runs (10 earned) on nine hits with two strikeouts and three walks in 2.2 innings.  Morgan pitched the final 2.1 innings and allowed one run on four hits with two strikeouts.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Wednesday, April 5 when they travel to University Heights for an OAC doubleheader against cross-town rival John Carroll University at 3 p.m.   The next home doubleheader is on Friday, April 7 when the team hosts Hiram College at 3:30 p.m.
