Softball Splits Rescheduled Doubleheader with Oberlin

OBERLIN, Ohio. – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team split a rescheduled doubleheader against Oberlin College on Culhane Field. 

BW (9-16-1) and Oberlin (10-20) were originally scheduled to play on March 16 but were postponed due to inclement weather.  The teams tried to reschedule for April 6 but once again were postponed due to inclement weather.

The Yeowomen won the opener by a final score of 7-2.  The Yellow Jackets took the second game by a final score of 9-8.

In game one, BW scored two runs on four hits as it plated one run in the fourth and one run in the seventh.  The Yeowomen tallied three runs on six hits as is tallied one run in the first, two on a homerun in the fourth.

The Yellow Jackets were led by sophomore third baseman Paige Loveless (Mechanicsburg) and sophomore center fielder Sami Minor (North Royalton) as each went 1-for-3 with a run batted-in.  Junior pitcher Sam Mott (Frewsburg, N.Y./Central) was 1-for-1 with a walk.  Freshman first baseman Hannah Albrecht (Northridge, Calif./Chaminade College Prep) had the other base knock as she went 1-for-3 with a run scored. 

In the circle, Mott took the loss as she allowed three runs on six hits with seven strikeouts and no walks in six innings. 

In game two, the Yellow Jackets scored nine runs on a season-tying 16 hits as they plated two runs in the second, third and fifth innings and three runs in the sixth.  Oberlin tallied eight runs on 11 hits as it scored two runs in the first inning, five runs in the fifth and one in the seventh 

BW was led by Mott as she had her first career multi hit game as she went 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Minor each went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.  Sophomore All-Ohio Athletic Conference shortstop Erica English (North Olmsted) went 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Sophomore All-OAC right fielder Alexis Boledovic (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark) went 2-for-5 with two runs scored.  Albrecht was 1-for-4 with her first collegiate double and two RBIs.  Senior Academic All-OAC left fielder Mackenzie Nelsen (Powell/Dublin Scioto) went 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.  Three other Yellow Jackets collected a base knock.

In the circle, freshman Nikki Turner (Hudson) pitched the first 4.1 innings and allowed seven runs (five earned) on seven hits with one strikeout and four walks.   Mott pitched the final 2.2 innings as she allowed one run runs on four hits with three strikeouts and one walk to pick up the victory.

BW is back in action on Friday, April 14 when it hosts an OAC doubleheader against Wilmington College on the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds Field at 1 p.m.
