WAIPAU, Hawaii – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team swept a non-conference doubleheader against NCAA Division II Chaminade University in a doubleheader at Central Oahu Regional Park.

BW (4-4) won the first game by a final score of 3-2 and took the nightcap in extra innings by a final score of 5-3.

In game one, the Yellow Jackets scored two runs on six hits as it plated two runs in the first inning and added the insurance run in the second inning. Chaminade (2-14) scored two runs on six hits as it scored one run in the first and one in the seventh.

The BW offense was led by center fielder Abbie Thompson (Madison) as she went 2-for-3. sophomore catcher Sami Minor (North Royalton) and freshman second baseman Alex Kozich (Avon) and junior pitcher Sam Mott (Frewsburg, N.Y./Central) all went 1-for-3 with a run batted-in (RBI).

In the circle, Mott picked up her second win of the season as she pitched seven innings and allowed two runs on six hits with career-high tying seven strikeouts with three walks.

In game two, the Yellow Jackets scored five runs on 10 hits as it plated one run in the first inning off the first career triples for Kozich and Minor, one run in the fourth and fifth and two in the eighth. The Silverswords scored three runs on eight hits as it scored one run in the fifth and forced the game into extra innings with two runs in the sixth.

The BW offense was led by Minor as she had a career-high four hits and went 4-for-4 with a triple, two RBIs and one run scored. Kozich went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a walk. Freshman right fielder Macy Leach (Westerville/Central) batted 2-for-4 with a RBI. Junior third baseman Paige Loveless (Mechanicsburg) went 1-for-3 with two RBIs.

In the circle, freshman Nikki Turner (Hudson) made the start and pitched five innings and allowed three runs on seven hits with a career-high four strikeouts. Mott picked up the win in relief as she pitched the final three innings and did not allow a run with one hit and a career-high tying seven strikeouts.
