Softball Earns OAC Split with Wilmington

BEREA Ohio. – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team split a pair of Ohio Athletic Conference games with Wilmington College on the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds Field. 

Wilmington (6-24, 2-10 OAC), who snapped an eight-game losing skid, won the first game as it scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning to secure the 2-1 victory.  BW (9-16-1, 2-7-1 OAC), who played its eight game in the last five days, won the second game by a final score of 6-3. 

In game one, the Yellow Jackets scored one run on six hits as it plated their lone on a wild pitch in the bottom of the sixth innings.  The Quakers tallied two runs on seven hits as is tallied two runs in the seventh. 

BW was led by junior pitcher Sam Mott (Frewsburg, N.Y./Central) and sophomore All-OAC shortstop Erica English (North Olmsted) as both were 2-for-3.   Two other Yellow Jackets picked up a base knock highlighted by freshman first baseman Hannah Albrecht (Northridge, Calif./Chaminade College Prep) as she had the lone extra base hit with a double.

In the circle, Mott suffered the loss as she allowed two runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts and no walks in seven innings.

In game two, BW scored six runs on 11 hits as it plated one run in the first, two runs in the second, one run in the fourth and two runs in the sixth.  Wilmington tallied three runs on seven hits as it scored two runs in the fourth and one run in the fifth. 

The Yellow Jackets were led by sophomore All-OAC right fielder Alexis Boledovic (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark) as she went 3-for-4 with a double, a run batted-in (RBI), two runs scored and a stolen base.  Mott was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.  Six other BW players had a base knock highlighted by freshman catcher Talia Prignano (Avon Lake) as she recorder her first collegiate hit and RBI.

In the circle, senior Academic All-OAC Erica Morgan (Brook Park/Midpark) got the no decision as she pitched three innings and allowed two runs on five hits with two strikeouts and three walks.  Freshman Nikki Turner (Hudson) picked up the win as she pitched the final four innings and allowed one run on two hits with three strikeouts and four walks. 

BW is back in action on Monday, April 17 when it travels to Olivet, Michigan for a non-conference doubleheader against Olivet College at the Cutler Athletic Complex at 3 p.m.   The Yellow Jackets return to OAC action on Wednesday, April 19 when it travels to Ada for a doubleheader against Ohio Northern University on the ONU Softball Field at 3 p.m.  BW closes out the home portion of its schedule on Saturday, April 22 when it hosts an OAC doubleheader against Capital University on Seniors' and Parents' Day at 1 p.m.
