ACADEMIC MAJOR:   Biology and Neuroscience

BW ATHLETICS INFORMATION: Dan O'Brien played four seasons of football at Baldwin Wallace University (2011-2014). He earned 2014 CAPITAL ONE Division III Academic All-America honors, was a National Football Foundation (NFF) Scholar-Athlete award winner and BW's 2014-2015 male Clyde Lamb Award winner.

CAPITAL ONE ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICAN:   Danny became the 94th Yellow Jacket and 29th football student-athlete to earn Academic All-America honors at BW when he was named as a second-team CAPITAL ONE Academic All-American on Tuesday, December 2, 2014.

NATIONAL FOOTBALL FOUNDATION:  The National Football Foundation Chapter of Northeast Ohio selects an elite group of local football student-athlete to receive a Scholar-Athlete Award which includes a financial scholarship toward graduate school.

CLYDE LAMB AWARD:  The Clyde Lamb Award is an Ohio Athletic Conference award. It is given to one male and one female student-athlete at each of the 10 OAC institutions and is symbolic of the school's top student-athlete in 2014-2015.

ACADEMIC HONORS:  Danny carried a 3.803 grade point average, was a Dean's List student and a Jacket Scholar. He was a member of the Alpha Lambda and Chi Sigma Alpha honor societies. As a junior in 2013-2014 and senior in 2014-2015, Danny was an Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference selection. As a senior in 2014-2015, Danny is a first-team CAPITAL ONE Academic All-District 7 selection. He was a 2014-2015 National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete Award winner. Danny also received the BW Leadership Award at the 2015 Student-Athletes Awards ceremony.

ATHLETICS HONORS:   As a junior in 2013-2014, Danny earned honorable mention All-OAC honors and earned second-team All-OAC accolades in 2014-2015.  He also earned OAC Defensive Player of the Week honors on September 28, 2013 for his efforts in a 23-13 win versus Muskingum University.

As a senior in 2014-2015, Danny was the co-Dick Miller Community & Family Day Most Outstanding Player award winner in a 32-20 win versus Bluffton University on Sept. 13, 2014. He subsequently received OAC Defensive Player of the Week honors. He also is the 2014 "Golden Helmet" Award winner given each year by the Trumbull (Ohio) County Touchdown Club. At the season-ending team banquet, Danny was the Outstanding Linebacker award winner. 

GENERAL FOOTBALL INFORMATION:  Danny O'Brien played four years of football and earned three varsity letters. He started as a junior and senior and was a three-year varsity contributor. The multiple award-winner (see above and below), including being BW's 94th overall and 29th football Academic All-American, helped the Yellow Jackets to compile a 26-14 record with a .650 winning percentage.

Individually, Danny had 155 career tackles, including 73 solo stops, 11 for lost yardage and three quarterback sacks. He also forced a fumble, recovered a fumble, intercepted three passes, including one he returned for a touchdown, broke up nine total passes and forced opposing QB's to hurry two more passes.

As a freshman in 2011-2012, Danny played in his first season of football and earned a certificate of participation.  He saw playing time in two varsity games at the safety position and played on the junior varsity squad. BW finished 8-2 overall and was ranked 24th in the final AFCA (American Football Coaches Association) Division III national poll.

As a sophomore in 2012-2013, Danny played his second season of football and earned his first varsity letter. He appeared in all 10 games at safety and outside linebacker and made 12 tackles total. BW finished 7-3 overall.

As a junior in 2013-2014, Danny played his third season of football and earned his second letter.  He started at OLB and was second on the team with 68 total tackles, including seven for loss and three quarterback sacks. He also led the team with three interceptions, including one he ran back for a touchdown. Danny forced one fumble, recovered another and broke up a pass. For his efforts in the classroom and on the football field, he earned Academic All-OAC honors. He also was an honorable mention All-OAC choice and the OAC Defensive Player of the Week on September 28, 2013 in a 23-13 win versus Muskingum University. BW finished 6-4 overall.

As a senior in 2014-2015 Danny played his fourth season of football and earned his third letter. He started at OLB for the second straight season and served as a team captain.  Danny was the co-Dick Miller Community & Family Day Most Outstanding Player award winner in a 32-20 win versus Bluffton University on Sept. 13, 2014. In the win, he had a team-high 12 tackles, including three for loss and a one for a safety. He subsequently received OAC Defensive Player of the Week honors. Danny was a first-team CAPITAL ONE Academic All-District 7 and second-team CAPITAL ONE Academic All-America student-athlete. He also earned Academic All-OAC honors for the second straight season. He also was a National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete Scholar-Athlete Award winner and the "Golden Helmet" Award recipient by the Trumbull (Ohio) County Touchdown Club. Danny had a team-leading 75 tackles, including four for loss. He also broken up two passes and forced opposing QB's to hurry two others. At the season-ending team banquet, Danny was the Outstanding Linebacker award winner. BW finished 5-5 overall.

HOMETOWN & HIGH SCHOOL INFORMATION:  Dan O'Brien grew up in Warren, Ohio and graduated from Warren Howland High School. He played four years of football and earned three varsity letters. He played three years of basketball and earned one letter. He also participated in one season of track and one season of baseball, but did not earn a letter.

In football as a senior, Dan was named All-American Conference Red Division and All-Trumbell County. He also earned Academic All-Ohio honors, was a Northeastern Ohio Scholar-Athlete, won the Eddie Craig Scholastic Award and was a WYTV Student-Athlete of the Week.

Academically, Dan carried a 3.85 grade point average and was in the Warren Howland Honors Program. He was a four-year academic letterman and a member of National Honor Society and the Tri-Alpha Honor Society.
