ACADEMIC MAJOR: Sport Management

BW ATHLETICS INFORMATION:   Nelson Candelario played four seasons of football at Baldwin Wallace University (2011-2014) and earned three varsity letters.

ACADEMIC HONORS:  Nelson carried a 3.219 grade average and was a Dean's List student.

ATHLETICS HONORS:  As a senior in 2014-2015, Nelson earned honorable mention All-Ohio Athletic Conference honors. At the season-ending team banquet, Nelson was named as the Outstanding Defensive Back Award winner. As a junior in 2013-2014, he was named as the 2013 Lee Tressel Shrine Classic BW Player of the Game Award winner.

GENERAL FOOTBALL INFORMATION: Nelson played four years of football and earned three varsity letters. He was a two-year starter and three-year varsity contributor. He helped BW compile a 25-15 record and .625 winning percentage.

Individually, Nelson played in 24 career games, made 43 solo and 38 assistsed tackles for 83 total tackles. He also had 3.5 tackles for loss, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, three four interceptions and 22 total passes defensed.

As a freshman in 2011-2012, Nelson played his first season of football and earned his first varsity letter. He appeared in five varsity games at cornerback and played on special teams. He recorded one tackle. BW finished 8-2 overall and was ranked 24th in the final AFCA (American Football Coaches Association) Division III national poll.

As a sophomore in 2012-2013, Nelson played his second season of football and earned a certificate of participation. He split time between the varsity and junior varsity teams as a cornerback but was hampered by injuries all season.  BW finished 7-3 overall.

As a junior in 2013-2014, Nelson played in his third season of football and earned his second letter. He started at cornerback on defense and made 44 total tackles, including two for loss, intercepted a pass and returned it 89 yards for a touchdown in a 54-7 win at Wilmington College on October 19. He also had a team-leading nine pass breakups.  Nelson was named as the 2013 Lee Tressel Shrine Classic BW Player of the Game for his efforts against John Carroll University on September 21. BW finished 6-4 overall.

As a senior in 2014-2015, Nelson played his fourth season of football and earned his third letter. He started at cornerback. He played in nine games, had 36 tackles, including 1.5 for loss, forced one fumble and recovered one fumble, had a team-leading three interceptions, including two in a 48-14 victory versus Capital University on Nov. 1, 2014, and had a team-high 13 passes defensed. He was an honorable mention All-OAC selection. At the season-ending team banquet, Nelson was named as the Outstanding Defensive Back Award winner. BW finished 5-5 overall.

HOMETOWN & HIGH SCHOOL INFORMATION: Nelson grew up in Cape Coral, Florida and graduated from Island Coast High School.

Nelson played four years of football and earned three varsity letters. He also ran one season of track and earned a varsity letter.

In football as a senior, Nelson was a first-team All-Area defensive back.

Academically, Nelson was a 2011 National Scholar-Athlete Award winner and the 2007 Island Coast H.S. Student of the Year.
