No. 5 Baseball Advances to National Tournament for Second Consecutive Season

BEREA, Ohio – The fifth-ranked Baldwin Wallace University baseball team was chosen by the NCAA Division III National Tournament Selection Committee to be one of the 56 teams who will play in the 2015 NCAA Division III New York Regional Tournament hosted by SUNY Cortland in Auburn, New York at Falcon Park on May 13-16.

The NCAA Division III regional and eight-team World Series is a double-elimination format that will feature four six-team regional tournaments and four eight-team regional events to equal to 56 teams who will compete for the 2015 national title. A year ago, BW (31-10) won the NCAA Division III Mid-Atlantic Region Tournament in Moosic, Pennsylvania and advanced to its first-ever Division III College World Series. The Yellow Jackets will join Amherst, Mass. College, (26-13), Keystone, Pa. College (31-12), Oberlin College (18-26), Old Westbury, N.Y. University (25-11), Oswego State, N.Y. University (27-11) and host SUNY-Cortland, N.Y. (36-4) in the New York Eegional.  There will be four games on Wednesday and four games Thursday with a regional champion being crowned on either Saturday or Sunday. The winner advances to the Division III World Series in Appleton, Wisconsin from May 22-26.

BW earned its berth in the tournament by virtue of its record against regionally-ranked teams. In fact, the OAC placed three teams in the national tournament. OAC Tournament champion Marietta College and regular season champ Heidelberg University also are making the trip.   Marietta is the third seed in the South Region and Heidelberg is the third seed in the Mideast Region. A year ago, the OAC had a Div. III Tournament-record four teams selected.

This is BW's sixth all-time appearance in the national tournament and the second straight. The Yellow Jackets previously qualified in 1985, 1986, 1988, 1991 and 2014. BW has a 8-10 overall NCAA slate.

This season, BW set a school-record for wins for the fourth straight season, and this year's senior class enters the regional with a 115-56 overall record
