BEREA, Ohio – Baldwin Wallace University Coordinator of Cross Country and Track and Field and Head Cross Country and Track and Field Coach Joe Eby is pleased to announce the hiring of Kim Gallavan '16 and Julian Johnson-Millan to his coaching staff.
Gallavan, who returns to her alma mater after servings as the head track and field coach at Thiel (Pa.) College for the past three years, will serve as the Associate Head Track and Field Coach and will work with the throws.
"Can't being to describe how excited we are to have Kim back in Berea and on campus," said Eby. She was an absolute legend as an athlete and has had a great beginning of her coaching career. Can't wait to get her on campus and continue to build and grow the program. The throws group at BW has such a rich history and tradition to it, which she was a huge part of that as an athlete, can't wait to see how she will grow the program as a coach."
While at Thiel, she mentored 80 All-President Athletic Conference honorees, seven PAC Champions, two PAC Athletes of the Week and set 11 school records.
"I would like to thank Coach Eby and Athletic Director Steve Thompson for the opportunity to come back to my alma mater," commented Gallavan. "BW has a wonderful history, and I am looking forward to coming back to help bring our programs back into that spotlight. BW has always held a special place for me, with the experience that I had here when I was an athlete, I am looking forward to passing on that to our future and current Yellow Jackets."
Prior to Thiel, Gallavan was an assistant cross country and track and field coach at Allegheny (Pa.) College for four years, throws coach ay Elite Throws Coaching for two years and throws coach at Capital University for one season.
While at BW, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in sport management and minor in management in coaching. Gallavan was a six-time All-American, four time Yellow Jacket Most Outstanding Female Thrower Award recipient, three-time NCAA Division III National Champion, three-time Ohio Athletic Conference Thrower of the Year Award winner, the 2016 NCAA Division III Indoor Outstanding Performer Award recipient, 2016 NCAA Division III Women's Field Athlete of the Year Award winner and the 2016 NCAA Division III Indoor Great Lakes Field Athlete of the Year Award recipient.
Johnson-Millan, who comes to BW after servings as graduate assistant track and field coach at Emporia State (Kan.) University the past two years, will serve as the Assistant Cross Country and Track and Field Coach focusing on the sprints and jumps groups.

While at Emporia State, he created and implemented training programs specific for student-athletes in the sprints and horizontal jumps. Johnson-Millan guided three sprinters to qualify for the NCAA Division II National Championships as well as a Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) champion in the 100-meter dash. He assisted with running home meets and assisting the head coach in daily operations and also was a teaching assistant in health, physical education and recreation.

Johnson-Millan earned a Bachelor of Science in psychology from California State University at Stanislaus and a master's in health, physical education and coaching from Emporia State.
As a student-athlete, he was a member of the 2018 Great Plains Athletic Conference Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field Championship teams while attending NAIA Doane (Neb.) University. Johnson-Millan was a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-American as a member of the 4x400-meter relay team at Sacramento City (Calif.) College in 2019. In his final season at CSU Stanislaus, he earned All-California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) honors in the 400-meter.
