Women's Swimming and Diving Places Third at Blue Devil Invitational

FREDONIA, N.Y. – The Baldwin Wallace University women's swimming and diving teams placed third at the three-day Blue Devil Invitational hosted by Fredonia University in the Steele Hall Natatorium. 

The Yellow Jacket women were third of nine teams with 437.5 points. John Carroll University was the team champion with 893 points.

The women's squad was led by sophomore All-OAC freestyler Allie Thorson (Amherst/Marion L. Steele), freshman stroker Marissa Kural (LaGrange, Ill./Lyons Township), junior All-OAC stroker Sarah Krupp (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville South) and sophomore All-OAC stroker Erika Nockengost (Cuyahoga Falls).

Thorson was runner-up in the 1650-yard freestyle event with a career-best time of 19:01.46. She also took sixth in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:27.64 after swimming a season-best time of 5:26.58 in the prelims.  Thorson placed eight in the 200-yard freestyle in a season-best time of 2:03.70

Kural was the runner-up in both the 100- and 200-yard butterfly events with career-best times of 59.61 seconds and 2:16.72. The freshman also took ninth in the 200-yard individual medley with another career best of 2:17.54.

Krupp took third in the 400-yard individual medley and fourth in the 200-yard butterfly in season-best times of 4:57.19 and 2:22.97.

Nockengost won the 200-yard butterfly event with a season-best and career-best time of 2:15.21 and also finished fifth in the 100-yard butterfly in a season-best time of 1:00.72.

Sophomore stroker/diver Ellie Clymer (Independence) placed eighth in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:11.70 after swimming a season-best time of 1:11.01 in the prelims. In the 1-meter diving event, the sophomore placed seventh with 264.15 points.

Senior Academic All-OAC freestyler Jordyn Miller (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) took 10th in the 100-yard backstroke in a season-best time of 1:03.55.

In relay action, the 400-yard medley quad of Miller, Clymer, Kural and Nockengost took third in a season-best time of 4:08.66. The 800-yard freestyle unit of Nockengost, Miller, Kural and Thorson finished third in a season-best time of 8:11.17.  The 200-yard medley relay team of Kural, Clymer, Nockengost and senior freestyler Lena Kortis (Canton/Massillon Perry) took fourth in a season-best time of 1:54.35. The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Nockengost, Kortis, Kural and Miller placed third with a season-best time of 3:44.56.

BW returns to action on Friday, January 5, 2018 when it hosts a non-conference dual meet against Widener (Pa.) University as part of its annual winter training session in Florida at the Sarasota, Florida, YMCA at 5 p.m.
