Women's Swimming and Diving Defeats Penn State Behrend

ERIE, Pa. – The Baldwin Wallace University women's swimming and diving team won a non-conference dual meet with Penn State Behrend College inside the Junker Center.

The Yellow Jacket women (4-1) defeated the Lions (0-4) by a final score of 183-96.

Earning victories on the women's side were sophomore freestyler Allie Thorson (Amherst/Marion Steele), sophomore stroker/diver Ellie Clymer (Independence), freshman stroker Marissa Kural (LaGrange, Ill./Lyons Township), sophomore stroker Erika Nockengost (Cuyahoga Falls) and freshman diver Lauren Franz (Canton/GlenOak).

Thorson earned victories in the 1000-yard freestyle and the 500-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 11:50.67 and 5:41.40, respectively. Clymer won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:14.14 and the 1-meter diving event with 165.05 points. Kural captured the 100- and 200-yard butterfly events with times of 1:02.78 and 2:23.11, respectively. Nockengost picked up the win in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:44.13. Franz won the 3-meter diving event with 151.85 points.

In relay action, senior freestyler Lena Kortis (Canton/Massillon Perry), freshman stroker Lauren Martello (Huron/Sandusky), Nockengost and Kural took first in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:58.79. The 200-yard freestyle relay team of sophomore freestlyer Jenna Ball (Salamanca, N.Y.), Kortis, Thorson and Martello captured the 200-yard freestyle relay in a time of 1:48.50.

BW is back in action on Friday, Nov. 17, when it travels to Hiram for a non-conference dual meet against Hiram College in the Alumni Memorial Pool at 6 p.m.  The Yellow Jackets return to OAC action on Saturday, Nov, 18, when it travels to Alliance to take on the University of Mount Union in the Hammond Natatorium at 1 p.m.
