Nockengost Wins First OAC Title, Women's Swimming and Diving in Fourth Place on Day 2 of OAC Champs

AKRON, Ohio – Sophomore stroker Erika Nockengost (Cuyahoga Falls) won her first Ohio Athletic Conference title as the Baldwin Wallace University women's swimming and diving team stands in fourth place after second day competition of the OAC Championships hosted by the Ohio Northern University in the Ocasek Natatorium on the campus of the University of Akron.

BW, who set one school record, had three All-OAC performers and one All-OAC relay team, are fourth of five teams with 367 points and trail third place by a half a point.   John Carroll leads the two-day competition with 593.5 points.

The top three individuals and the top two relay teams earn All-OAC honors.

The Yellow Jackets were led by Nockengost and freshman stroker Marissa Kural (LaGrange, Ill./Lyons Township) as the duo finished first and second in the 100-yard butterfly.  Nockengost won her first OAC title and earned her first All-OAC accolade as she swam a career-best time of 57.83 seconds.  Kural earned her first All-OAC honor as she touched the wall in a career-best time of 58.39 seconds.

In addition, freshman diver Lauren Franz (Canton/GlenOak) earned her first All-OAC honor as she placed third in the 3-meter 11-dive event with a career-best 255.60 points. Sophomore All-OAC freestyler Olivia Jacob (Canton/McKinley) placed fourth in the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 1:58.21.  Jacob swam a career-best time of 1:57.65 in the prelims. Junior All-OAC stroker Sarah Krupp (Williamsville, N.Y. /Williamsville South) finished sixth in the 400-yard individual medley in a time of 4:52.76.  Krupp had a season-best time of 4:51.83 in the prelims. Senior Jordyn Miller (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) finished sixth in the 100-yard backstroke in a career-best time of 1:01.66 and was ninth in the 200-yard freestyle in season-best time of 1:59.71. Sophomore freestyler Allie Thorson (Amherst/Marion Steele) finished seventh in the 200-yard freestyle in a season-best time of 1:59.86.  Sophomore stroker Ellie Clymer (Independence) finished seventh in the 100-yard breaststroke in a career-best time of 1:08.45.

In relay action, the 200-yard medley relay unit of Kural, Clymer, Nockengost and senior freestyler Lena Kortis (Canton/Massillon Perry) took fourth in a season-best time of 1:50.41. The 800-yard free relay team of Nockengost, Kural, Miller and Jacob finished second to earn All-OAC honors in a school-record time of 7:55.16.

BW is back in action on Saturday, February 18 for the third and final day of competition of the OAC Championships.  Prelims begin at 10 a.m. and the finals will be contested at 6 p.m.
