Women's Swimming and Diving Falls to Case Western Reserve, Beats Ursuline in Season Finale

CLEVELAND – The Baldwin Wallace University women's swimming and diving teams closed out the regular season portion of its schedule as it dropped a non-conference dual Case Western Reserve University but knocked off NCAA Division II Ursuline College in the Veale Natatorium. 

BW (8-4) lost to the Spartans (8-1) by a final score of 243-56 but defeated Ursuline (1-1) by a score of 218-42.

The Yellow Jackets were led by sophomore All-OAC freestyler Olivia Jacob (Canton/McKinley) won the 500-yard freestyle and finished fourth in the 200-yard freestyle with times of 5:27.32 and 2:06.70.

In addition, sophomore stroker Erika Nockengost (Cuyahoga Falls) took second in the 100-yard butterfly and third in the 100-yard individual medley with times of 1:00.42 and 1:05.73. Senior freestyler Lena Kortis (Canton/Massillon Perry) was third in the 100-yar freestyle with a time of 57.47 seconds. Freshman stroker Lauren Martello (Huron/Sandusky) took fourth in the 50-yard backstroke in a time of 31.49 seconds. Senior stroker Courtney Severns (Bucyrus) finished fourth in the 50-yard breaststroke in a time of 34.32.  Freshman diver Lauren Franz (Canton/GlenOak) was fourth in the 3-meter diving event with 164.02 points. 

BW is back in action on February 15-17 when it travels to Akron for the 2018 OAC Championships hosted by Ohio Northern University in the Ocasek Natatorium on the campus of the University of Akron.  Preliminary action is slated to begin at 10:00 a.m. each day with finals to be contested at 6:00 p.m.
