Gunter Leads Wrestlers to 2-2 Mark at Desert Duals in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS, Nevada --  Two-time NCAA Division III All-American 133-pounder Jesse Gunter (Akron/Coventry) won  his 99th career match, remained unbeaten this season and had a 4-0 record as the 16th-ranked Baldwin Wallace University wrestling team had a 2-2 record at the Desert Duals.

Gunter, ranked fourth in Division III at 133 pounds, opened the dual tournament format with a 10-9 win against No.2-ranked Connor Campo of No.1-ranked Wartburg (Iowa) College. He also earned a 12-1 major decision, a pin in 1:43 and hard-earned a 10-7 decision en route to his 4-0 record at the duals, a 13-0 slate this season and a 99-12 career mark. He moved from 125 pounds to 133 pounds this season.

The Yellow Jackets, 9-5 overall, lost their first match to host and No.1-ranked Wartburg, 33-9, lost to No.10-ranked Coe (Iowa) College, 19-16, beat the University of Dubuque (Iowa). 31-9, and beat Saint John's (Minn.) University,  32-16.

In addition to Gunter, seven BW grapplers each had a 2-2 mark. It included junior 141-pounder Zach Taylor (Brunswick), senior 149-pounder Joey Schmidt (Hinckley/Brunswick), junior Graham Montague (Independence), senior 165-pounder David Shapiro (Beachwood), senior All-American 174-pounder Garrett Chase (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep), senior 184-pounder Ben LeBrun (Strongsville), sophomore All-Ohio Athletic Conference 197-pounder Tyler Maclellan (Medina/ CVCA) and senior 285-pounder Joe Belford (Berea/ Lakewood St. Edward).

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on January 8-9, 2016 at the National Wrestling Coaches Association National Duals in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
