BW ATHLETICS INFORMATION: David Shapiro had an outstanding four-year wrestling career at Baldwin Wallace University. The 2014 NCAA Division III National Tournament qualifier and four-year starter earned four varsity letters, is among the school's all-time victory leaders and helped BW to win the 2016 Ohio Athletic Conference title.

ALL-OAC/ NCAA NATIONAL QUALIFIER:  As a sophomore in 2014-2015, David was a second-team All-Ohio Athletic Conference selection and qualified for the 2014 NCAA Division III National Tournament by placing third at the NCAA Div. III Mideast Regional.

AMONG ALL-TIME VICTORY LEADERS:  David had a 104-40 career record with a .722 winning percentage and ranks fifth on the Yellow Jacket all-time victory list.

SINGLE-SEASON RECORD:  As a sophomore in 2013-2014, David set a BW single-season record with 40 victories.

GENERAL WRESTLING INFORMATION:  David Shapiro had an outstanding four-year career for the Yellow Jackets and helped to lead BW to the 2016 OAC title and an all-time-best second place finish at the NCAA Div. III Mideast Regional Tournament. During his final three seasons in the BrRown & Gold, BW compiled a 43-16 record in dual matches, including a perfect 5-0 OAC Mark in 2016.

Individually, David started at 165 pounds for four years and compiled a 104-40 career record and ranks fifth on the school's all-time victory list. He also set a single-season school-record with 40 victories in 2013-2014.

As a freshman in 2012-2013, David competed in his first season of wrestling and earned his first varsity letter. He was the starting 165-pounder and compiled a 27-14 record. David totaled three pins, five technical falls and 69 takedowns. He also had 37 escapes, nine reversals and 24 total near falls. David also won an individual tourney at the Manchester, Ind. Tournament.

As a sophomore in 2013-2014, David competed in his second season of wrestling and earned his second letter. He was the starting 165-pounder. David placed third at the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional Tournament and qualified for the 2014 NCAA Division III National Tournament. At the NCAA Div. III National Tournament, David lost both of his matches. He was a second-team All-OAC selection. He had a team-leading 40 victories and a 40-13 record with a team-leading 13 pins. David also had 91 takedowns, 61 escapes, six reversals and 26 total near falls. BW finished 8-3 overall.

As a junior in 2014-2015, David competed in his third season of wrestling and earned his third varsity letter. He had an overall record of 28-8 with six pins, one technical fall, 60 takedowns, 36 escapes, four reversals and 11 total near falls. BW had a single-season school-record 17 victories, a 17-6 overall record, including a 4-1 OAC dual mark, won the John Summa Memorial Tournament title, placed third at the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional and 20th at the 2015 NCAA Division III National Tournament.

As a senior in 2015-2016, David competed in his fourth season of wrestling and earned his fourth varsity letter. He started at 165 pounds, but an injury midway through the season sidelined him and ended his career. Davide was ranked as high as sixth by the NWCA prior to his injury. David won his 100th career match with a 10-2 major decision versus No.4-ranked Messiah (Pa.) College at the Mt. Union Duals. He compiled a 9-5 record with two pins, 19 takedowns, 14 escapes, one reversal and 12 total near falls. BW compiled a school-record 18 victories with an 18-8 overall record, won the OAC title with a perfect 5-0 record and placed an all-time best second at the NCAA Div. III Mideast Regional Tournament. BW also was 31st of 53 teams at the NCAA Division III National Championships.

HOMETOWN & HIGH SCHOOL INFORMATION: David Shapiro grew up in Beachwood, Ohio and graduated from Beachwood High School.

David participated in wrestling for four years and earned four varsity letters, and played football as a freshman, junior and senior and earned two letters. 

In football, David was a two-time All-Capital Ohio Conference linebacker and served as a team captain in 2012.

In wrestling, David was a four-time All-OCC wrestler and conference champion in 2012.  He also was a four-time District qualifier who placed third at OHSAA (Ohio High School Athletic Association) State Tournament in 2012. David was a two-time team captain (2011 and 2012).
