Arroyo Named to d3wrestle.com All-Freshmen Team

BEREA, Ohio --  Baldwin Wallace University freshman and All-Ohio Athletic Conference 165-pound wrestler Anthony Arroyo (Maumee) has been named to the d3wrestle.com Division III All-Freshman first-team.  He was the only OAC freshman named to the first or second-team.

Arroyo had an outstanding freshman season and helped the Yellow Jackets win their first OAC wrestling title since 1973 and place second at the Division III Mideast Regional Tournament. BW also finished 31st at the Division III National Championship Tournament and ranked 17th in the final NWCA (National Wrestling Coaches Association) Division III national rankings.

Arroyo, who earlier this winter earned All-OAC accolades, battled with two other grapplers for the starting job when four-year starter and senior 2014 Division III national qualifier David Shapiro (Beachwood), who had 104 career wins, went down with an injury just after Christmas.

Arroyo stepped into the starting lineup and showed why he deserved to be a starter on one of the nation's top Division III teams. He produced a 24-9 record, including a perfect 5-0 mark against OAC foes, including a pair of pins. He was the OAC Wrestler of the Week on February 15. He also placed fifth at the Mideast Regional tourney at 165 pounds and won the 165-pound title at the 30th Annual BW John Summa Memorial Tournament.
