Albrechta’s Career Day Leads BW Women’s Lacrosse Past DePauw (Ind.)

GREENCASTLE, Indiana – Freshman attack Hannah Albrechta (Uniontown/ Green) scored a career-high and game-high tying four goals and added a career-best three assists and career-high seven points to lead the Baldwin Wallace University women's lacrosse team to its second win of the season as it posted a 17-11 non-conference victory against DePauw (Ind.) University at Reavis Stadium.

In addition to Albrechta for BW (2-3), sophomore midfielder Kayla Miller (Hudson) scored a career-high and game-best-tying four goals.  Junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference midfielder Maddie Russell (Lakewood/ Rocky River) recorded the hat trick as she netted three goals.  Senior attack Emma Harding (Akron/Revere) and freshman midfielder Megan Patrick (Ravenna/ Kent Roosevelt) each recorded two goals. 

DePauw (1-4) lost its fourth straight game and led by Emilye Denny, Elizabeth McCracken and Maryclaire Heldring with two goals aiece.

In the first half, the Tigers jumped out to an early, 2-0 lead with goals from Denny and McCracken with the last coming at the 23:26 mark.   The Yellow Jackets responded with goals from Russell and Miller to tie the game at 2-2 at 21:19.

After another DePauw score, BW ran off six unanswered goals to take an 8-3 lead on the second goal of the half from Miller at the 7:27 mark.  During the run, the Yellow Jackets got two goals from Albrechta and one each from Harding, Patrick and Russell.

In the second half, the Tigers cut BW's lead to 8-4 on a score by Madi Lozanoski just 58 seconds into the period.  Albrechta scored her third goal to extend the lead to 9-4 at the 28:16 mark. DePauw responded when Heldring netted a goal at 27:47 to cut the lead to 9-5. The Jackets then extended their lead to 11-5 on goals by Miller and Albrechta with the last coming at 19:54. 

After two goals by the Tigers cut BW's lead to 11-7, the Yellow Jackets scored four straight goals to take a commanding, 15-7 lead when sophomore attack Caitlin Wheeler (River Forest, Ill. / Oak Park-River Forest) tallied her first goal of the contest at the 11:56 mark.  During the run, BW got scores from Harding, Patrick and junior All-OAC midfielder Katie Kocher (Rocky River).

DePauw responded with three unanswered goals to cut the Jacket to 15-10 when McCracken found the back of the net at the 6:02 mark.  The Yellow Jackets tallied two goals the Tigers one down the stretch as BW secured the 17-11 victory.  The Yellow Jackets got their final scores from Miller and Russell with the last coming with 25 seconds remaining.

In net for BW, sophomore netminder Taylor Giordanengo (Cranberry Township, Pa. / Seneca Valley) picked up her second victory as she faced 23 shots, including 16 on goal, and made five saves.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action tomorrow, Sunday, March 20 when they travel to Franklin, Indiana for a non-conference match against Franklin College inside Faught Stadium at 12 p.m.
