Wheeler Sparks Women’s Lacrosse Victory at Ohio Northern

ADA, Ohio – Sophomore attack Caitlin Wheeler (River Forest, Ill. / Oak Park-River Forest) scored a season-high seven goals and added one assist for eight points to lead the Baldwin Wallace University women's lacrosse team to a 21-10 Ohio Athletic Conference victory over Ohio Northern University inside Dial-Roberson Stadium.

In addition to Wheeler for BW (10-5, 3-2 OAC), junior midfielder Katie Kocher (Rocky River) scored one goal and added a season-high six assists for seven points. Freshman attack Hannah Albrechta (Uniontown / Green) and senior attack Emma Harding (Akron / Revere) each contributed three goals and added two assists for five points.

Ohio Northern (6-8, 1-4 OAC) was led by freshman attack Maggie Fuller with five goals and an assist for six points.

The Yellow Jackets opened the game with four unanswered goals with one apiece from freshman midfielder Megan Patrick (Ravenna / Kent Roosevelt), Albrechta, sophomore midfielder Kayla Miller (Hudson) and Kocher with the last coming at the 17:42 mark. The Polar Bears got on the board when Kayla Reuss scored the unassisted goal at the 14:40 mark. BW outscored Ohio Northern 7-4 to close out the half to lead 11-5 at the intermission. The Yellow Jackets got four goals from Wheeler and one each from Harding, Miller, and junior attack Jenna Turner (Carmel, Ind. / Carmel) with the last coming with 21 seconds remaining.

BW went on a 3-2 run to start the second half and make the score 14-7 when Albrechta scored her second goal of the game via an assist from Wheeler at the 21:52 mark. The Yellow Jackets outscored the Polar Bears 7-3 in the final 20 minutes to secure the win.

Sophomore goalkeeper Taylor Giordanengo (Cranberry Township, Pa. / Seneca Valley) made three saves and improved to 10-5 this season.

BW is back in action on Wednesday, April 27 when it hosts an OAC game against cross-town rival John Carroll University on Seniors' and Parents' Night on the Tressel Field inside George Finnie Stadium at 7:30 p.m.
