Women’s Lacrosse Drops OAC Match Against Cross-Town Rival John Carroll

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's lacrosse team was defeated by cross-town and Ohio Athletic Conference rival John Carroll University 17-13 on Tressel Field inside George Finnie Stadium.

BW (10-6, 3-3 OAC) was led by junior midfielder Katie Kocher (Rocky River) who scored two goals and added a game-high five assists for seven points. Along with Kocher, junior midfielder Maddie Russell (Lakewood / Rocky River) and sophomore attack Caitlin Wheeler (River Forest, Ill. / Oak Park-River Forest) each scored three goals.

John Carroll (9-4, 4-2 OAC) was led by freshman attack Jill Millard who scored a game-high seven goals. Along with Millard, sophomore attack Gina Vilsack scored three goals and added three assists.

In the first half freshman midfielder Megan Patrick (Ravenna / Kent Roosevelt) opened the scoring at the 27:39 mark to give the Yellow Jackets an early 1-0 lead.  The Blue Streaks went on a 4-0 run to make it 4-1 and force BW to take a timeout when sophomore midfielder Meghan Harte netted her 22nd goal of the season at the 24:37 mark. BW answered with a 3-0 run of its own when Russell beat the John Carroll goalkeeper to tie the game up at 4-4.  Both teams scored five goals in the final 20 minutes of the first half and the score was 9-9 at halftime.   

In the second half the Yellow Jackets went on a 4-3 run to make it 12-11 when senior attack Emma Harding (Akron / Revere) scored at the 14:04 mark. The Blue Streaks outscored the Yellow Jackets 6-1 in the final 14 minutes to hold on for the victory. 

Freshman goalkeeper Marisa Nahem (Bexley) made four saves in the losing effort.

BW is back in action on Saturday, April 30 when it travels to Wilmington for an OAC game against Wilmington College on Townsend Field inside Williams Stadium at 7 p.m.

The 2016 OAC Tournament with the semifinals on Wednesday, May 4 when the top two seeds host the third and fourth seeds. The winners of the two semifinal games will play in the championship game on Saturday, May 7 on the campus of the highest remaining seed.
