Men's Tennis Team Beats Heidelberg to Improve to 20-0

TIFFIN, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College men's tennis team defeated Ohio Athletic Conference foe Heidelberg University, 9-0, today (Wednesday, April 18, 2012) in Tiffin to remain unbeaten at 20-0.

With its victory, B-W is now 20-0 overall and 6-0 in the OAC.   The shutout was B-W's 12th this season and sixth straight against OAC opposition.  In addition to shutting out 12 opponents this season, the Yellow Jackets have outscored the opposition, 152-10. Heidelberg dropped to 11-5 overall and 4-2 in the OAC.


B-W gained an early 3-0 lead after the doubles competition and won all of the six singles matches to stretch its winning ways to 20 straight.


In singles play, senior Alex Trzeciak (Avon Lake) won 6-2 and 6-2 at No.1, junior All-OAC standout Joe Horvath (North Royalton) won 6-2 and 6-1 at No.2, freshman Kyle Patterson (Wooster/ Triway) won 6-1 and 6-1 at No.3, senior Alexandre Bourdiaux (Paris, FRANCE) won 6-0 and 6-2 at No.4, junior No.5 player Tyler Beaton (Bemus Point, N.Y./ Maple Grove) won 6-2 and 7-5 and Josh Pecinovsky (Columbus/ Bishop Hartley) won 3-6, 6-4 and 6-4 at No.6.


Trzeciak, a three-time All-OAC and two-time Academic All-OAC selection, earned the 83rd singles victory of his career. He is now 83-19 overall and inches closer to James Daly (2005-08/ 105-10 record). Trzeciak also is 76-24 career in doubles play. In addition, his two victories today (singles and doubles) give him 159 for his career to rank second all-time to Daly (196 career combination wins).


Horvath's singles victory was the 66th of his career. He is now 66-8 overall and is in ninth place surpassing former standout Andy Redd (2007-10/ 65-33 record) and is two victories away from tying Matt Lachman (2008-11/ 68-23 record) for eighth place. He also has a 61-12 doubles slate and his 127 career combination wins ranks ninth.


This season, Trzeciak tops the Yellow Jackets in victories with 22 and is 22-3 overall. He is followed by Horvath at 21-2, Patterson at 20-3, Kearney at 18-4, Bourdiaux at a perfect 17-0 and Beaton is 13-1. In addition,  sophomore Brad Minrovic (Akron/Ellet) is 9-3 and Pecinovsky is 7-1.


In doubles action, the number one tandem of Trzeciak and Bourdiaux won by an 8-9 (7-3) score, the No.2 duo of Horvath and Beaton won by a score of 8-1 and the No.3 team of Patterson and senior Minrovic won by an 8-0 score. Trzeciak and Bourdiaux are now 15-1, Horvath and Beaton are 14-1 and Patterson and Minrovic are 1-0.


The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Friday, April 20 when they play at The College of Wooster at 4:30 p.m. and then host an OAC showdown with defending OAC-champ Ohio Northern University on Saturday, April 21 at 1:00 p.m. at the "Pop" Collins Courts in Berea.


On Wednesday, May 2, prior to B-W's first round OAC Tournament match in Berea, the College is going to recognize Coach Rector for his 400th career victory. He is the winningest men's tennis coach in OAC and Ohio collegiate history.
