BEREA, OHIO -- Five members of the Ohio Athletic Conference champion Baldwin-Wallace College men's tennis team were named to the All-OAC team and Head Coach Brian Rector '89 was tabbed as the OAC Coach- of-the-Year.
Senior No. 1 singles player Alex Trzeciak (Avon Lake) highlighted the selections with his third straight first-team nod and was joined on the first team by sophomore No. 2 player Joe Horvath (North Royalton). On the second team are freshman No.3 player Kyle Patterson (Wooster/ Triway) and senior No. 4 player Alexandre Bourdiaux (Paris, France/ Lycee Saint Dominique). Also, junior No. 5 Tyler Beaton (Bemus Point, N.Y./ Maple Grove) was tabbed as an honorable mention selection.
Rector is the winningest men's tennis coach in OAC and Ohio collegiate history with a 414-84 career record and an outstanding .831 winning percentage. This past season, he led the Yellow Jackets to a school-record 29 wins, his third OAC regular season title with a 9-0 record, the school's fourth OAC Tournament title and its first-ever NCAA Division III National Tournament appearence that included a 5-4 victory in the first round. This is Rector's third OAC Coach of the Year acclaim.
Trzeciak, who was a first-team All-OAC selection the past two seasons as well as a two-time Academic All-OAC member, posted a 26-6 record. In singles, he was 8-1 during OAC competition and was a part of the No. 1 doubles team with Bourdiaux. Trzeciak was 25-8 overall in doubles, including a 21-5 mark with Bourdiaux. For his career, Trzeciak finished with a singles mark of 87-22 and a doubles record of 82-28. His 26 single wins this season ties him for fifth all-time. His 87 career singles victories ranks second all-time behind James Daly's '08 school-record of 105. His 82 career doubles wins are third all-time.
Horvath, who was a second-team All-OAC selection for the past two seasons, posted an outstanding 28-2 record. He was 9-0 in OAC matches. His 28 wins this season ranks second all-time, and is one off of Daly's school-record of 29 in 2005. Horvath was 26-8 overall in doubles, including a 20-5 mark with Beaton as the No. 2 tandem. In three seasons, Horvath is 73-8 overall in singles and 67-16 in doubles. His 73 career singles victories is seventh all-time.
Patterson had a strong first season of collegiate tennis as he compiled a 27-3 record, including a 21-1 mark at No. 3. His 27 wins are tied for the fourth most in a season. Patterson was 20-6 overall in doubles, including a 14-5 mark with senior Taylor Long (Ashland) at No. 3. Long finished his with an 85-25 career doubles record, including a doubles record of 24-9 during his senior season. His 85 career doubles wins are second all-time.
Bourdiaux joined the team as a senior transfer student and was a strong addition to the team. He ended this season with a 24-1 singles record and compiled a 22-5 doubles mark. His 24 singles wins ranks tied for eighth all-time. He had a 24-0 singles mark until losing a first-round NCAA tourney match.
Beaton finished the season with a 20-3 overall record, including a perfect 7-0 slate in OAC matches and competed mostly at No. 6 singles. He and Horvath posted a 20-5 doubles mark. In two seasons, Beaton has a 24-3 overall singles record and a 40-8 mark in doubles competition. He did not play as a sophomore. Beaton also is the backup goalie on B-W's NCAA Division III National Tournament team that set a school-record last fall with a 16-6 mark.
