BW Men's Lacrosse Team Loses at Hanover (Ind.)

HANOVER, INDIANA  – Three Yellow Jackets netted a pair of goals as the Baldwin Wallace University men's lacrosse team lost at host Hanover (Ind.) College, 13-7, at L.S. Ayres Field.  The loss was the Yellow Jackets' first of this season.

With its loss, BW drops to 3-1 overall while Hanover improves to 6-1 overall.

The Yellow Jackets were led by sophomore attacker Vinny Carson (Cleveland/ Benedictine), freshman midfielder Shane Rakich (Dublin/ Olentangy Liberty), and freshman midfielder Tanner Roberts (Murrysville, Pa./ Franklin Regional) with two goals each. Hanover had three players each score hat-tricks.

BW led 3-2 after one perod, the game was tied 4-4 at halftime and the Yellow Jackets trailed 7-4 after three stanzas. Hanover outshot BW, 52-30, including a 29-17 advantage in shots on-goal, and had 45 ground balls to the Yellow Jackets' 40.

In addition for BW, freshman midfielder Jarrod Gilliam (Lewis Center/ Olentangy Orange) scored one goal and freshman midfield Joey Briski (Pittsburgh, Pa./ Pine-Richland) tallied one assist. Hanover was led by senior midfielder Derek Coe who recorded three goals and had two assists.

In goal, sophomore Jake Harders (Rocky River/ Lakewood St. Edward) started, played all 60 minutes, faced 29 shots, allowed 13 goals and made 16 saves as he fell to 3-1 this spring.

The Panthers took a early 2-0 lead at 8:23 of the first period when junior midfielder Zac Cheatle scored his first of two goals of the game. The Yellow Jackets answered back with three straight goals with the last coming at 4:20 when Roberts scored unassisted to give BW a 3-2 lead.

The Yellow Jackets opened the second quarter with an unassisted goal from Rakich at the 13:48 mark. Hanover tied the game before halftime with goals by junior attacker Josh Green and junior attacker Nick Hermes at the 11:19 and 6:44 marks, respectively.

The Panthers scored the first goal of the second half at the 10:59 mark when Coe scored his second of the game. BW never was able to regain the lead as it was outscored 9-3 by Hanover in the second half.

BW returns to play on Wednesday, March 19 when the Yellow Jackets make up a non-league match versus Bethany (W.Va.) College on Tressel Field at The George Finnie Stadium at 7:00 p.m.
