BW Men’s Lacrosse Cruises to Victory Against Bethany (W.Va.)

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's lacrosse team defeated Bethany (W.Va.) College, 17-2, in a rescheduled non-conference game on the Tressel Field in The George Finnie Stadium.  The game originally was scheduled for February 23 but had to be postponed due to field conditions.

The Yellow Jackets (4-1), who remained undefeated at home, were led by sophomore attack Vinny Carson (Cleveland/Benedictine) with three goals and two assists and freshmen midfielder Shane Rakich (Dublin/Olentangy Liberty) with three goals and one assist. Freshmen midfielders Jake Rakich (Dublin/Olentangy Liberty) and Tanner Roberts (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) each contributed two goals. The Bisons (3-5) got goals from Travis Granich and Brendan Wessells.

BW took a 6-0 lead after the first quarter of play and was led by Roberts with two goals, including scoring just 52 seconds into the game.

The Yellow Jackets kept the offensive attack rolling in the second period as it pushed the lead to 10-0 before Bethany scored its first goal of the game with 2:19 remaining in the stanza.  BW got goals from Carson and freshmen Brett Librock (East Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville East), Jake Rakich (Dublin/Olentangy Liberty) and Shane Rakich.

The Yellow Jackets got the only two goals in the third period and extended their lead to 12-1 on goals by Shane Rakich and freshman attack Luke Happel (Pittsburgh, Pa./Hampton).

BW pushed its lead to 14-1 on goals by Carson and Shane Rakich before the Bisons scored their second goal of the game at the 7:23 mark.  The Yellow Jackets tacked on three more goals over the remainder of the game to secure the 17-2 victory.

In goal, sophomore Jake Harders (Rocky River/St. Edward) started, played 49 minutes allowed one goal and mde two saves as he improved to 4-1 overall. Freshman Austen Peppo (Brunswick/Padua Franciscan) played five minutes and allowed one goal and had three saves before leaving the game with an injury.  Senior Ray Carballo (Cleveland/St. Ignatius) played the final five minutes and made one save.

BW outshot Bethany, 44-17, and had a 53-30 advantage in ground balls.

BW next travels to Greenville, Pennsylvania for a non-conference game with the Tomcats of Thiel College on Saturday, March 22 at 1 p.m.  The next home game is on Sunday, March 30 when the team hosts LaRoche (Pa.) College in a non-conference game at 1 p.m.
