BW Men’s Lacrosse Team Drops First OAC Game to Otterbein

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's lacrosse team lost its first Ohio Athletic Conference game as it fell to Otterbein University by a final score of 12-5 on Tressel Field at The George Finnie Stadium.

BW (6-4, 1-1 OAC) was led by sophomore attack Vinny Carson (Cleveland/Benedictine) as he scored two goals. Freshman midfielder Jarrod Gilliam (Lewis Center/Olentangy Orange) contributed a goal and added two assists. Otterbein (7-4, 2-0 OAC) was led by Pat Teynor with three goals while Robbie Guiliano and Brandon Stroup each tallied two goals.

The Cardinals led 2-0 after the first quarter as they scored both of their goals in the final three minutes of the period from Mike Dattolo and Teynor.

Otterbein tacked on two more goals from Reese and Stroup to push its lead to 4-0 at the 2:04 mark. The Yellow Jackets scored their first goal when freshman attack midfielder Devon Henry (Avon Lake) found the back of the net off the assist from with 1:23 remaining.

The Cardinals increased their lead to 5-1 when Stroup threw a laser into the back of the net just 58 seconds into the third quarter. BW responded with three unanswered goals in 55 seconds to cut the lead down to 5-4 when Carson scored his second goal off the assist from Gilliam at the 2:58 mark.  Otterbein added one more goal from Guiliano to close out the third quarter at 6-4.

The Cardinals opened the fourth quarter with five unanswered goals with the last coming on the goal by Mike Sullivan with 10:24 left in the period. The Yellow Jackets snapped the scoring streak and cut the lead down to 11-5 when freshman midfielder Tanner Roberts (Murrysville, Pa. /Franklin Regional) scored off the assist from freshman midfielder Shane Rakich (Dublin/Olentangy Liberty) at the 5:22 mark.

In goal, sophomore Jake Harders (Rocky River/St. Edward) played all 60 minutes, faced 24 shots, allowed 12 goals and made five saves as he fell to 6-4 overall.

BW is back in action on Saturday, April 19 when it travels to University Heights to play OAC and Cleveland cross-town rival John Carroll University in an OAC game at Don Shula Stadium at 1 p.m.
