Baseball Bests NCAA Division l Butler (Ind.) University

NORTH CHARLOTTE, Fla. – The Baldwin Wallace University baseball team beat NCAA Division l Butler (Ind.) University 12-9, at the Port Charlotte Regional Park.

BW (5-4) drove home 12 runs with 15 hits and two extra-base hits.

The bats were led by junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference shortstop Alex Ludwick (Brunswick/Padua Franciscan) as he went 4-for-5 at the plate with four runs-batted in(RBI), which included an RBI single in the third and an RBI single in the fourth. Senior ABCA/Rawlings All-American selection and All-OAC centerfielder Dudley Taw (Sheffield Lake/Brookside) went 3-for-3 with four RBI, one double, a stolen base and a run scored. Senior left fielder Jacob Bonner (Akron/Archbishop Hoban) went 3-of-6 at the dish with three runs scored and a stolen base. Freshman Chris Viamonte (Naples, Fla./Lely) went 2-for-3 with one RBI and run scored. Sophomore Drew Wilson (Sagamore Hills/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy), freshman pinch hitter Ethan Sloane (Saxonburg, Pa/Knoch), and sophomore pinch hitter Bijan Kamalipour (Frisco, Texas/Jesuit College Preparatory School) each had pinch-hit RBI singles. Freshman first baseman Luke Vonderhaar (New Bremen) scored one run and also drove in a run.

On the mound for the Yellow Jackets was senior right-hand pitcher Scott Kirchhoff (Toledo/Sylvania Northview). Kirchoff(1-0) earned his first career victory after dealing 3.1 innings where he allowed one earned run off four hits and a career-high five strikeouts. Sophomore right-handed pitcher Garret McLeod (Medina) was next and he tallied .1 innings where he allowed zero runs. Freshman right-handed pitcher Clay Anderson (Garfield Heights/Trinity) pitched 2.1 innings and allowed zero runs off one hit. Wilson threw .2 innings and allowed three earned runs off two hits and struck out one.  Sophomore right-hand pitcher Maxwell Cebulak (Oakmont, Pa./Pittsburgh Central Catholic) made his second appearance this season and threw .1 innings and allowed zero runs. Freshman left-hand pitcher Nik Baldis (Wexford / North Alleghney) pitched one innig and only allowed one hit. Senior right-hand pitcher Spencer Aukerman (Medina) secured the save(1) with his one inning of work where he struck out two.

After an off day, BW returns to the field on Thursday, March, 12 for a rematch against Swarthmore (Pa.) University. First pitch is scheduled for 9 a.m.
