PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – The Baldwin Wallace University baseball team bounced back from an early six run deficit in the first inning, to take a 12-9 victory over Bridgewater (Va.) State University, at the North Charlotte Regional Park.
BW (4-3) scored 12 runs off 17 hits and two extra-base hits.
Freshman first baseman Luke Vonderhaar (New Bremen) led the offense as he went 3-for-6 with four runs-batted in(RBI), two runs scored and a stolen base. Freshman right fielder Cameron Jones (Naples, Fla./Lely) went 3-for-5 at the dish with two RBI, one double and a run scored. Junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference shortstop Alex Ludwick (Brunswick/Padua Franciscan) went 2-for-5 with a two-run single in the second, and a run scored. Senior left fielder Jacob Bonner (Akron/Archbishop Hoban) went 2-for-5 with an RBI double to left center in the fifth, while scoring two runs. Junior second baseman Tony LoParo (Avon/Elyria Catholic) went 2-for-5 with two singles and two runs scored. Sophomore catcher JT Mazula (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) went 2-for-6 with two singles and a run scored. Sophomore third baseman Luke Razzante (Highland Heights/Mayfield) tallied an RBI single in the second, scored a run and stole a base. Sophomore pinch hitter Bijan Kamalipour (Frisco, Texas/Jesuit College Preparatory School) recorded an RBI single in the seventh, while senior ABCA/Rawlings All-American selection and All-OAC centerfielder fielder Dudley Taw (Sheffield Lake/Brookside) tallied one hit and a run scored.
Sophomore right-handed pitcher Drew Wilson (Sagamore Hills/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy) started for the Yellow Jackets and dealt .2 innings, allowing six earned runs off five hits. Freshman right-hand pitcher Ethan Boyko (North Royalton) entered in relief and pitched 3.1 innings where he allowed one earned run off three hits and struck out six. Senior left-hand pitcher Spencer Berg (New Albany) pitched the final 5.2 innings and only allowed two runs(one earned) off three hits and four strikeouts.
BW is back in action tomorrow for a non-conference matchup with Susquehanna (Pa.) University. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
